@RealOriginalZZZ @IslesUpNorth Yes, playing on the PP. I think his goal was a PPG and he and Eklund both assisted on the same PPG yesterday. Production still a bit low, 3 pts in 8 games so far, still cautiously optimistic.

@LurchMob1 @IslesFix I love Roy as a person and player. He’s not a good head coach. DeBoer will bring a system and structure. He’s 9-0 in game 7s. He’s a winning coach. Problem is too late for this year. For next year coaching won’t be the issue.

Darche thought so poorly of the job Roy was doing a month ago, that he traded a 1st, 3rd, a prospect and Drouin (his big summer signing) for Brayden Schenn to fuel the playoff push.
Others may have long knew Roy wasn’t the right coach, but the GM wasn’t among them #Isles

@LurchMob1 @IslesFix “He’s been bad” and “he is bad” are two different things. Maybe if system highlighted defense or he had a coach that could figure out lines that made sense he would be more effective. No question he is better than Drouin and if they had made playoffs or still do, even moreso.

I have been OK with plenty of moves, but Darche has been bad thus far.

Smart move by Darche. Significant upgrade. DeBoer likely wouldn’t have been available much longer. Hiring now gives the team a chance for last minute bump and offers DeBoer an opportunity to see the players up close. Impressive move by the first year GM.

@IslesFix If Schaefer wasn’t generation, would isles even have been anything better than bottom 10 team. Maybe he wanted this year to assess things before deciding on direction. Maybe a coach like Deboer wasn’t ready to come here with a bottom 5-10 roster until Schaefer popped.

Peter DeBoer, and others, were available when Darche took the job, he decided to stick with a hold over in Roy; then, after he exceeded expectations, saddled him with Soucy, Palat, and forced positional changes with the unnecessary trade for Schenn. Then, fires him.

As for why now (on top of the bad play): There were/still are a number of really strong head coaches on the market. You wait until after the season, you may not get the chance to hire the guy you want. #Isles, clearly, weren't willing to wait and see.

At the very least, he's a SOLID 3rd down rusher. If his run defense catches up, he's going to be a good starting DT for this team.

@IslesFix Schenn at 6M with raising cap is not a bad player and value. He’s a bit redundant with JGP but with Anders future not certain it’s not the worst move in the world. Don’t love it. But it’s not terrible. Palat with term is terrible. Schenn also lets them trade Casey if they want.

The Schenn move was horrible. It was horrible if they make the playoffs. It was horrible if they miss the playoffs. Not the move to make for this franchise at this point, with this roster.

@IslesFix Schenn move was fine. The other pre-deadline moves were terrible. The main issue to me which falls 100% on Roy was his reluctance to take Soucy or Palat out of lineup. In fact he’s elevated Soucy last 4 games to bigger role and look what happened. That and he has no D system.
