I watched Trump’s speech at the Correspondents’ Dinner last night. It’s hard to articulate how sad it made me. Sad and embarrassed and exhausted. Here is the thing about a man who is a joke. He can’t tell one. People think humor is a talent. It isn’t. It’s a capacity. To make someone laugh you have to be able to laugh at yourself, and to laugh at yourself you have to step outside of yourself and see what everyone else sees. For one second you have to be just another person in the room. Most people can do this by the time they are nine years old. He has never once managed it. Not in fifty years of cameras. Not for a second. That is not a quirk. It is a symptom. The muscle that lets you tell a joke is the same one that lets you feel what another person feels. A man who cannot survive being laughed at cannot imagine being anyone but himself. He will only ever be generous when it is photographed. He will only ever be kind when it is filmed. There is a name for it. So he stood up there and did what he always does. He hit down. He made jokes about people’s weight. He made jokes about their intelligence. He made jokes about how women look. He read out the names of people he doesn’t like, and mocked them. Always mocking. And when no one laughed he blamed his speech writers. The cruelty dressed as humor has worn so thin. And for the 30% of you still in the cult who will inevitably call me a crackhead and blame it all on my Dad, all I can say is please, for the love of God, open your eyes. Wake the fuck up. Have some dignity. Have some pride. Joe Biden wasn’t standing at that podium last night. Donald Trump was. And at the end of it he put on a red hat that said Trump 2028 and told the room he was running again. No one laughed because everyone knows he has no intention of leaving. Just another joke at our expense.

I’m not in a cult. I’m simply speaking from a comedic standpoint Trump has great comedic timing. I didn’t say anything about his politics or actions strictly speaking on his ability to deliver jokes. And no I don’t think this was his funniest speech but like I said he said he scrapped his “roast speech” because of what had happened.

Yea I don’t understand the people that say “he said no new wars” so if we get attacked again like sep 11th 2001… you’re going to be angry at Trump for going to war?!? I don’t get it … there is always exceptions to any rule. Iran was a threat - he had to deal with it. I’ll listen to Trump hasn’t done shit to lower cost of living because I’m dissapointed with that myself but the Iran thing is mind boggling to me - what if Iran had a nuke. People have no idea what threat that would really be to many millions of people around the world.

What’s your point Daniel? Every other president at the correspondents dinner has subjected themselves to a professional comedian. Trump, however, is so thinned skinned they booked a magician instead. And every other president at the dinner has made a speech that is almost always self deprecating humor and they poke some fun at the press before praising the role of a free press. What Trump did last night wasn’t just an embarrassment to himself it was an embarrassment to the office. Once again he revealed his true self. He is small and humorless.

Um it did happen a dozen times with Biden… but comparing Biden to Trump is a stretch no matter what your political beliefs are … Trump even if he fell every single day still works 16-18 hours per day, gives press interviews at least 4-5 times per week and has been the most transparent President ever in the history of the United States. We got to see things that we would only dream of seeing such as the negotiating with Zelenskyy live in the White House , his grand daughter Kai basically gives anyone watching her channel a backstage pass to major events at the White House also to be clear no major media outlet is reporting this “fall” which leads me to believe it’s either super old or AI. Hate or love Trump I think even hardcore blue liberals can at least admit that the access into seeing the inner workings of the president and White House are something that we will likely never get again and have been nice to see.
