Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) officers intercepted a stolen vehicle in Florida, Johannesburg, on Thursday afternoon, 9 April 2026, following intelligence received from a credible source.
The vehicle, which had been reported stolen in Krugersdorp, was stopped at the intersection of Albertina Sisulu Road and the N1 off-ramp while allegedly en route to Zimbabwe.
A Pakistani national found in possession of the vehicle was arrested at the scene and remains in custody.
Preliminary investigations suggest the suspect may be linked to a broader syndicate involved in vehicle theft and cross-border smuggling.
The recovered vehicle has been seized and booked at the SAPS vehicle pound for further investigation.
JMPD Chief of Police, Commissioner Patrick Jaca, praised the operation, highlighting the role of intelligence-driven policing in disrupting organised crime networks.
Authorities have urged the public to continue reporting suspicious activities.

The longest road tunnel in Africa is just outside Paarl, South Africa, and it’s getting a R4 billion upgrade🚇
Over 100 million vehicles have passed through the 3.9km Huguenot Tunnel since it opened in 1988.
The current daily average of vehicles passing through the tunnel is 13,000, saving them up to 26 minutes compared to the Du Toitskloof Pass. This has also saved an estimated 5.5 million barrels of fuel to date.
When engineers first drilled the mountain in the 1980s, they actually made two tunnels. However, they only finished the inside of one (the South Bore). The second one (the North Bore) has been sitting empty and unused for 40 years.
Right now, the Huguenot Tunnel is like a narrow two-way street squeezed into a single tube. Cars going in opposite directions have to share the same space. This upgrade is all about opening the second tunnel to create 4 traffic lanes.
Once finished, the tunnels won't be two-way anymore. One tunnel will have two lanes in one direction, and the other will have two lanes in the opposite direction.
Another interesting element is the potential HQ for a "First for Africa" Lab. Stellenbosch University is eyeing the site for the Paarl Africa Underground Laboratory (Paul). If it goes ahead, we’re looking at Africa's first-ever subterranean nuclear physics lab hidden within our infrastructure.
What are your thoughts on a high-tech physics lab next to a major highway tunnel? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments.

Former Black Stars player Edwin Gyimah has dragged his family to popular courtroom-style radio show, ‘Oyerepa Afutuo’ on Oyerepa FM over their alleged attempts to forcibly take over his 8-bedroom house in Obuasi.
According to the former Ghanaian international, he returned from South Africa after a series of unsuccessful attempts to secure professional contracts with football clubs. Believing his repeated setbacks may be spiritually motivated, he came back home to seek help from his family.
He alleges that his sister demanded he sign over the house documents in exchange for GH¢50,000, and claims his family became hostile after he refused.
Now reportedly homeless, the 35-year old further alleges that his family may have played a role in his struggles over the years and is demanding the immediate eviction of all relatives living in the house, including his mother, who is said to be battling a stroke.

NASA’s Artemis II mission is a truly global endeavor, and South Africa is proudly part of the story.
Through the South African National Space Agency (@SANSA7) the Hartebeesthoek Ground Station (HartRAO) is playing a vital role in deep space tracking and communications. As part of NASA’s worldwide ground station network supporting the Orion spacecraft, SANSA’s team provides essential tracking, telemetry, and ranging data. This helps keep the mission connected, the spacecraft healthy, and the crew safely on course during this historic journey.
South Africa’s contributions to space exploration have deep roots too.
Upington Airport (FAUP) in the Northern Cape boasts one of the longest civilian runways in the world - Runway 17/35 stretches an impressive 4,900 meters (16,076 feet). With its clear desert skies, minimal obstacles, and strategic location, the airport has long been celebrated locally as a strong potential emergency landing site for large aircraft, including hypothetical Space Shuttle scenarios. While it was never formally designated as a NASA Transoceanic Abort Landing (TAL) site, its exceptional capabilities have made it a memorable part of South Africa’s space heritage narrative.
Back in 2015, I had the privilege of taking my Aerospace Leadership Academy cadets to visit SANSA’s Space Operations at Hartebeesthoek. It was a chilly day, but the experience left a lasting impression; a powerful reminder of the talent, infrastructure, and ambition already thriving in Africa’s space ecosystem.
Seeing those same facilities actively supporting today’s Artemis missions, while reflecting on Upington’s impressive runway standing ready in the desert, feels incredibly meaningful.
Moments like these remind us why we invest in the next generation of aerospace leaders: because today’s students will become tomorrow’s mission enablers, innovators, and ground station operators.
Here’s to SANSA, to South Africa’s growing, and historic role in space exploration, and to turning inspiration into real impact.
