I like to run. Also, I wear camo and do Army stuff sometimes. I don't like peanut butter. Fuck cars.

@TWRader I'll be following closely. Hopefully we can reduce car dependence in Cleveland and Ohio as a whole.

@KyleGBaker Would be even better if Brian Zimmerman would let us use the parks for cyclocross. Or if we got rid of golf courses on what is supposed to be public land.

I actually make videos out of things people tweet at me. Sometimes, anyway. Uploading in the next hour!

@Nerd4Cities Can we get something like this but with H+T? You kinda alluded to it at the end. (From someone frustrated that his city gets labeled "affordable" when its H+T figures are the same as NYC. 😬).

@AFluffyPinecone @JustinLewis1977 @Boenau I don't at all. I'd rather go 3-4 times a week and be there for 15-20 minutes than go once a week for over an hour. It's also much easier when you live in a human-centric place where the grocery store is like 5 minutes away by bike or on foot.

Half of America's car trips are under 3 miles. It bothers some people that those could be bike trips.
D.M. Ridley@RidleyDM

@Boenau No, what @htown_Joe is saying is that commuting *isn't* a reason to use a bicycle. It's overstated—obviously some small subset of people commute and make other trips by bike. But to first approximation he's right. They're mostly recreational.

@AFluffyPinecone @JustinLewis1977 @Boenau Most people that walk/bike to the grocery store don't return with 50+lbs of groceries, nor do they typically use a backpack exclusively to carry them. I go to the grocery store ~3x/wk, buying only the things I need for a couple days. In Europe, most people go daily

@JustinLewis1977 @Boenau And as I've said before, most people would have a hard time carrying 25kg worth of groceries for any distance greater than a few steps. Certainly not half a mile. That's why we have cars, so we don't have to engage in primitive behavior.

@AFluffyPinecone @Boenau It is absolutely not more dangerous to ride than it is to drive. Driving is statistically the most dangerous thing most Americans do.

@Boenau Three miles in a car takes roughly 5 minutes Three miles on a bicycle, even an e-bike, can take three to four times as long You just turned a 5 minute trip into an unnecessary 20 minute bicycle ride It's also more dangerous to ride a bike than it is to drive. Congratulations.

@RidleyDM @cb_hagen @Boenau @htown_Joe The Netherlands is notoriously rainy and has a literal fuckton of bollards in my experience. As does Germany, France, Austria, Belgium, and the UK. Yet they all have notably higher cycling and walking mode shares than basically everywhere in the US.

@cb_hagen @Boenau @htown_Joe We were talking about the US. Obviously this isn't true in Amsterdam or Copenhagen, which are flat, dense, and have a cool climate and a good network of bike lanes that are generally grade separated without the ridiculous space wasting bollards we use here.

There's a type of person who insists that commuting & weekend playtime are the only reasons any person might use a bicycle to get around. Friends, HALF of America's car trips are under 3 miles. 🚲🚲🚲
Joe@htown_Joe

@Shotgun_Chuck @Boenau @NoMoreBikeLanes That's unfair! Bikes are wonderful for recreation in the country and on bike paths around lakes, etc. They're just largely useless for commuting.

@RidleyDM @UrbanistSteve @Boenau @htown_Joe One of the primary complaints of transit is that it doesn't go where you want when you want. Bikes solve that. One of the biggest complaints with driving is that gas, insurance, maintenance, and the vehicle itself are quite expensive. Bikes solve that.

Does anyone still believe that deshaun Watson was the right move for the #browns? He was the wrong move to begin with, but now he doesn't even want to play.

I'm serving overseas for the military and just had to pay $9.65 to mail my ballot back because the post office lost the first two I mailed. All Ohioans: please vote yes on issues 1 and two. Don't make that a wasted $10.

How to create a cycling culture where none exists? Build a complete network, and build it quickly. Between 2006 and 2008, Seville went from 15 to 120 kilometres of protected bike infrastructure, and from a 0.5 to 6 percent modal share—a twelve-fold increase virtually overnight.

@KJPisMe @ADayInTheSlife @AllAboardOhio I'm really confused how adding Akron to the plan for a 3C line is a bad idea & hurts ridership but adding Dayton is good. Please explain. We either need to prioritize speed above all & only stop in the 3 C's or include other major cities like Akron & Dayton for max inclusion.
