@Real_nimrod07 @OptimoPrincipi Agreed, I did not get the sense that Odysseus felt any shame about being a warrior or going to war. Nolan’s Odysseus seems to feel bad specifically about the Trojan horse and the fact that so many of his men die as a result of that.
Not perfectly faithful but still enjoyable.

@Real_nimrod07 @amywelborn2 It's not that it strays away from the text verbatim it's that so little appears to remain. Odysseus would be amazingly foreign to us moderns but a more faithful adaption would allow us to at least identify Odysseus in the modern retelling

@artwithinpod I do disagree with her point of Odysseus feeling bad about being a warrior. He doesn't, him raising hell against all the suitors prove that. Nolan's Odysseus feels bad about raiding a city using a trick, taking advantage of the Trojan's naivety

Wilson’s words here raise an interesting question at the core of Odyssey discourse: is it more ““woke”” to make a movie where war and violence are portrayed positively through an ancient lens, or a movie where they are portrayed critically through a modern lens?

I’m getting a huge number of reports from THE ODYSSEY viewers telling me there was applause at the end of their screening, which normally almost never happens outside of premieres. This film is becoming a phenomenon.

I don't really care about Christopher Nolan's politics but I'm also confused on why people are using The Odyssey film to say that he has conservative ideals like we gotta think for a second an adaptation of a 3000 year old poem is probably going to be a bit conservative by nature

I've only seen a handful of Nolan movies but the most interesting thing to me is that they often seem surreally confused about their own narrative stakes. What is DiCaprio's motivation in Inception? Why does Oppenheimer kinda imply an era of atomic warfare that did not occur?
