The five largest categories in the US federal budget (FY 2026 year-to-date outlays through June, per Treasury data) are:
1. Social Security (~$1.24 trillion)
2. Net interest on the debt (~$827 billion)
3. Medicare (~$780 billion)
4. Health (mainly Medicaid and related, ~$762 billion)
5. National Defense (~$713 billion)
These account for the bulk of the ~$5.5 trillion spent so far this fiscal year.
