My friend encountered a well known politician in a men’s restroom. This man, who I won’t name, was obviously staring at my friend’s penis around the dividers at the urinal. My friend said “hey aren’t you Lindsay Graham?” and this man who I won’t name, got scared and left.

It's insane to me that most Americans can't even comprehend metric units and Celsius without converting. I understand it's not the system used, but it IS the international system, used in all scientific fields and ~every other country. Useful to at least instill the basics.

@StatisticUrban Oh, you don’t mean converting in our heads. (Isn’t that what everyone does?) You mean something like using the calculator function on our phones. Well yes, we Americans have little to no use for centigrade and metric, other than to know what 2 liters of Coke is. Our bubble.

@StatisticUrban A couple of the girls later told us boys — against school instructions — that they were told about menstruation and to be prepared for it in the next couple of years. Boys were to be shielded from this information, and of course we received no info about puberty — or procreation.

@StatisticUrban One exception: in 5th grade (age 10) we were led into a dark room with a TV to watch a docu on tide pools. Girls all seated in back. 15 mins into the hour the teachers silently led the girls out and silently brought them back 30 mins later. Girls beet red when the lights went on.

Is it true that a lot of American schools don't teach actual, proper sex ed?

@StatisticUrban 1 semester in high school is required. It is called health class. It covers child care, safe driving, contraceptives, and drugs. Thats about it. We also have a semester long class in 6th grade called DARE and it teaches us about drugs and alcohol.

@StatisticUrban Why does it matter if and where it ends? Is it supposed to end? Why? If 6% of the population is lesbian or gay, a logical place for this to top off is 6%. Or much more if you count kids, parents, roommates etc living in a place with a same-sex couple as heads of household.
