I get what you are saying but to be honest i would state it a little better .. only because the actually hardware that calculate the solution is Close Source .. the PCB it was put on is open source, However credit should always go to the Close Source ASIC chip first no matter what.. So for people who are new to this space should always be given the most honest information, as of today they are NO true open source ASIC miner. We have Open Source PCB with Close Source processor and Close source PCB with Close Source processor .. And yes open source software and close source software.
