The solution to America’s growing energy demand might already be on our roads. As millions of EV batteries retire from vehicles, many still have years of useful life left. Redwood Energy redeploys them as grid-scale storage today, powering data centers and strengthening the grid, before we recover their critical minerals at end-of-life.

Last week, we unveiled Redwood Energy: our new business that repurposes EV battery packs into low-cost, fast, and scalable energy storage. We just built a 12 MW and 63 MWh microgrid — the largest second-life battery deployment in the world and the largest microgrid in North America, powering a data center for @CrusoeAI. The system demonstrates exactly what Redwood Energy is designed to do: bring resilient, low-cost power to market, fast.

In most battery recycling programs, the consumer, retailer, or local government pays a fee because aggregation, logistics, and safe handling for small devices are expensive. We believe recycling should be free to the public, so through our partnerships we provide the Battery Bins and logistics to safely collect and recycle these batteries. We’re investing to build the infrastructure to make battery recycling easier and safer in more communities.

Today's directive underscores the need for creative energy infrastructure that strengthens the grid. Domestic energy storage solutions, like Redwood’s, are a clear asset here—enabling fast, flexible capacity that accelerates speed to power and keeps costs down.

"Load growth projections are still accelerating; one estimate quadrupled in just two years, to 166 GW of peak load growth by 2030. Against that backdrop, an important tool for making the most of the capacity we have already, no matter the source of generation, is storage." latitudemedia.com/news/the-unexp…

2025 was a big year at Redwood: we launched Redwood Energy, opened new facilities in South Carolina and San Francisco, produced 60,000 MT of critical minerals, and deployed the largest microgrid in North America—powered by second-life batteries. On to 2026!

NEWS: Redwood Materials has begun operations at its new $3.5 billion battery recycling factory in South Carolina that will supply badly needed critical materials. The company has brought a system online that’s capable of recovering 20,000 metric tons of critical minerals annually, which isn't full capacity. "America runs on critical materials: cobalt, lithium, nickel, and copper. They are the backbone of our modern economy, powering everything from computers and smartphones to energy storage, defense systems, and AI data centers. Yet today, the United States imports nearly all of these minerals, often from unstable regions or adversarial nations. Redwood’s mission is to change this."

How does the Battery Bin work? 1) Drop it in: Any battery or battery-powered device; no taping, sorting, or taking things apart. Just as-is. 2) The Bin does the hard part: Inside, smart sensors quietly monitor what’s going on and keep tabs on capacity and safety in real time. 3) We take it from there: When the Bin is full, it’s easily swapped out and sent to Redwood, where we recover more than 95% of the critical minerals inside.

SF builds the future...and then we stash products from the past in junk drawers. That’s why we’re rolling out the Redwood Battery Bin here first, turning yesterday’s tech into tomorrow’s. We’re now live at any @colehardware or @SportsBasement in the city — come recycle your batteries and devices.

Meet the Redwood Battery Bin: a patented system designed to safely collect mixed batteries and devices at scale, with remote monitoring and fire safety at the core. With automated sensing and real-time telemetry, it unlocks the critical minerals sitting in America’s junk drawers and makes public battery recycling simple and scalable. redwoodmaterials.com/news/introduci…
