Unsolicited📖recommendation! @StuartJRitchie’s book was in equal measures scary and motivating. “Let’s work to resist our focus on shiny research findings and learn to value results that are solid, even if they’re less immediately thrilling” #openscience @_open_science_ @NorRepro

Ein enorm wichtiger Artikel. Die teils bedenklichen Leserkommentare liefern eine unfreiwillige Bestätigung der Hauptthesen. zeit.de/kultur/2021-04…

If you’re a PhD student worried about your fertility, but also afraid of the professional consequences of starting a family while in school, I see you. No one seems to talk about this, but I think we should. Please rt to start a dialogue. 1/

The goal of scientific writing is not to make yourself sound smart or demonstrate everything you know. The goal is to give the reader only exactly what they need to know to understand what you want to communicate. Good writing is an act of empathy with the reader.

This isn’t a party political point by the way. There is a deep malaise affecting public life. MPs are paid by all of us; they represent all of us - all of our interests, not just those of their political tribe or party members. This applies particularly to ministers.

@TrevorABranch I heard that vaccine-resistant mutations are a potential risk when giving a single shot and waiting too long for the second one.

Can an expert explain to me why they don't just give a single vaccine shot to as many people as possible right away? Seems like that would save the most lives. Because... say one shot gives 50% protection and 2 shots give 95% protection 1/n
