"The Safe Place is like a credit card; if you don't teach children how to use it, they're gonna abuse it every time." Listen in as Master Instructor Kim Jackson teaches what the Safe Place is and how crucial it is for each child to have a "person." rb.gy/xuiim

Today we turned the “headbands” into a game during Language Arts, it was a fun way to practice reading and writing! Thanks @LKrantzberg for the idea! @The_OJCS

@3Aojcs @The_OJCS Beyond incredible learning Kitah Gimmel! Do you know many adults don’t even know what bound bases or a twin bases are? And it fills my heart that you are investigating the word <inclusion> as a kick off to #jdaim2023 #SWI for the win yet again!

While reading “The Cool Bean”, the grade 1s noticed all of the different words in the story that ended with the <-ed> suffix. We explored the different sounds <-ed> can make and went on a suffix hunt! @LKrantzberg @ReichsteinS

It took a few tries but our Grade 2 students @The_OJCS were able to figure out how to spell, bottle. Do you know why there is an <e> at the end? My students could tell you. #StructuredWordInquiry

We used our dreidels in math class to help us with graphing and data management. We put whatever Hebrew letter the dreidel landed on on our graph to see which we would see the most!

Grade 2 read The Magic Dreidel by Eric Kimmel, and then imagined what their own magic dreidel's would do. These thoughtful and touching creations are worth a closer read, including an unlimited supply, food, housing, medicine, and love. #TheOJCSDifference

@LKrantzberg @1bojcs Chicken seems to be a base word but I’d love for you to investigate words with the <-en>suffix and see if the sound you are wondering about stays the same. dark + en wood + en deep + en Can you think of other words with that suffix? Notice the sound?

@1bojcs Hmm.. that’s a great question! It’s important to remember that English words are based on history, the way the word is built, AND the sound… I could be wrong, but I think it’s because of the history of the word! In Old English it was <cicen>. Can @ReichsteinS confirm?

@LKrantzberg @1bojcs Great question! Words are not spelled in English by sounding it out. As you know many letters (graphemes) can make many sounds (phonemes). Like Morah Lianna said it comes from Old English cicen (plural cicenu) "young of the domestic hen, the young of any bird”

Today in science we got to go down to the MAKERSPACE!! We were so excited. We have been learning about why leaves change colours in fall so today we did an experiment to see if we could take the colour pigment off the leaves ourselves! @The_OJCS @KarissaZuorro @a_aizenberg

Grade 1 loved reading “We’re All Wonders” by R. J. Palacio. We talked about what makes us special and unique as well as how we show kindness. Check out these cool books where we shared what makes us wonders! @The_OJCS
