I want to add one thing to the comments after the game. 🔺Sure, we created like 10+ chances by pressing City’s CBs, usually it’s like 0-1. Sure, very few teams will give us the open grass that City did. But isn’t this just Ole on repeat? 30% possession? 🔺There is one — very stark — difference from 4-5 years ago. We played like this from the midfield/Bruno and up under Ole depending a bit on the XI. Today — we did a really good job playing through City’s pressure from Martinez and up. Not from Bruno and up. Even Lammens. That makes a world of difference over 90 minutes. 🔺Is this transferable to playing Fulham? Of course not, it’s a completely different game. Like we saw how much Casemiro struggled against Brighton. Him and Maguire survived today since we played a very deep back line. City set up to dominate possession — they don’t set up to stop counter attacks. Because their game plan is just to — not — ever lose the ball in certain situations. But — if we play somewhat like this against Fulham we will give up chances and create chances. The key here is to play those types of games a heck of a lot better than Fulham. If the get 5 chances and we get 5 chances — we should lead 2-0. That was Liverpool’s game plan last season to a large extent. 🔺But — Carrick put up a 10/10 game plan today. I can be a real back seat driver — he was on another planet than anything I could have come up with from the soffa. The Arsenal gamewill be a bit different. But the big challenge will come in the weeks after that. We shouldn’t assume that Carrick will continue like this post City/Arsenal.
