@tofar1 Hard agree. Infuriates me. Lucky with K-12 college in Merredin. Lots of working townies and a few farmers send their kids there. Last 2 years grads in Law, Medicine, Maths, Physio, or apprenticeships then run local biz. Local kids ⬆️ local sport, after school jobs - we all win.

Identifying areas of high drought risk in southwest Western Australia! In a new paper with @DPIRDWA and @NACC_NRM we use publicly available spatial data to show that the northern and eastern wheatbelt are at highest risk from drought. Find it here: link.springer.com/epdf/10.1007/s…

Correct - the boundaries are due to datasets (economic/social) collected by Shire.

@pbl1972 @manda_babbler @RichardMcLellan @DPIRDWA @NACC_NRM The data sources were many and varied and some were accessed via local councils. Hence you can have some aspects like this appear. Drought vulnerability is mostly about weather but also about communities and their resilience, hence shire based data is useful.

@cstevens73 You should be able to still get a digital farm map from DPIRD Cindy with all those layers. The best part of building the map at the kitchen table though was the discussion, planning and problem solving.

Farm mapping…. Who provides this service in WA? The Ag dept used to do great farm maps showing topography, hydrology, contours, soil types etc to plan for fencing, tree plantings, saltbush, best enterprise mix etc. Who provides this service to farmers now?
