It is despicable that after the pain and trauma that DHS caused to Liam and his family an immigration judge ruled to deny their asylum. But the fight isn’t over. The ruling is being appealed and we will continue to fight for Liam and for families like his. One thing remains true: We must abolish ICE and dismantle DHS. We must pass my Melt ICE Act.

According to a statement from Columbia Heights Public School District, where Ramos attends school, an immigration judge "ended the asylum claims of the family of Liam Conejo Ramos," describing it as a "heartbreaking" development.

In September, I opened an investigation into the reports that DHS agents are unlawfully coercing unaccompanied minors to self-deport. DHS must comply and provide Congress answers.    From deporting DACA recipients to protected minors, DHS can’t be reformed. We must abolish ICE and dismantle DHS.

Today, Mullin proved he’s just another anti-immigrant loyalist who will implement Trump and Miller’s campaign of terror without question. He is unfit for confirmation. The Senate should not confirm nominees with a history of bigotry and violence. But regardless of who is in charge of DHS, it is built to be a weapon to be pointed at anyone the government deems a thread. It must be dismantled.
