This Surface Transportation Reauthorization bill invests in roads, bridges, rail, and freight infrastructure while cutting red tape and giving states more flexibility to address their transportation needs. Following a 14-hour legislative markup, T&I approved the BUILD America 250 Act – a bipartisan, five-year surface transportation reauthorization bill that invests in America’s roads, bridges, transit, rail transportation, and highway and motor carrier safety programs. transportation.house.gov/news/documents…

If you use the system, you should help pay for the system. The BUILD America 250 Act ensures that all users of our roads, including electric vehicles, pay their fair share and provides the first new revenue stream into the Highway Trust Fund in over 30 years.

A major focus for Congressman Westerman this Congress has been cutting the burdensome red tape to streamline our federal permitting process so that America can get back to doing what it does best: building. In 1982, President Reagan said, “Our country's outstanding highway system was built on the user fee principle—that those who benefit from a use should share in its cost. It is appropriate that we rely on this same concept now.”  Over 40 years later, today’s @TransportGOP bill builds upon that principle.
