La Marine nationale a arraisonné hier matin un nouveau pétrolier sous sanctions internationales en provenance de Russie : le Tagor. Notre détermination est constante et totale. Cette intervention a été effectuée en Atlantique, en haute mer, avec le soutien de plusieurs partenaires dont le Royaume-Uni, dans le strict respect du droit de la mer. Il est inacceptable que des bateaux contournent les sanctions internationales, violent le droit de la mer et financent la guerre que mène la Russie contre l’Ukraine depuis plus de 4 ans. Ces navires, qui ne respectent pas les règles les plus élémentaires de navigation maritime, constituent également une menace pour l’environnement et pour la sécurité de tous.

Frankly speaking, neutrality is a morally bankrupt concept. Having studied sanctions evasion and wartime supply chains, I’ve found some facts particularly striking: neutral Switzerland is the leading European supplier of microelectronics that end up in Russian weapons, while another neutral European country, Ireland, is the leading supplier of aluminum for Russia’s war machine. So that’s what “neutrality” often means in practice.

Iran has tied Lebanon and Hezbollah to the ceasefire and has now threatened to activate the Houthis to block the Bab el Mendeb strait in addition to the Strait of Hormuz. Iran can no longer pretend it does not control or direct these designated terrorist organizations as proxies.

This tracks with what I’m hearing about Iran holding the Houthis in reserve as the regime believes the current strategy of holding the Strait of Hormuz at risk is working but will have the Houthis put rhetoric Bab el-Mandeb straits at risk too if they feel the need too.

France’s Navy, with support from UK partners, has detained the sanctioned shadow fleet tanker TAGOR in the Atlantic. TAGOR has been involved in transporting 🇷🇺 oil despite G7 and EU restrictions and is linked to networks associated with moving 🇷🇺 and 🇮🇷 oil. Hopefully, this detention will last for a long time and become one of many more actions against shadow fleet vessels

Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenka joined Moscow’s pressure campaign, warning Armenia that it might face a Russian military intervention if the June 7 election results are not to the Kremlin’s liking. Last night at 11 p.m. ET, U.S. forces successfully intercepted two Iranian ballistic missiles targeting American forces based in Kuwait. These missiles were immediately defeated and no American personnel were harmed. U.S. Central Command remains vigilant and will continue to protect our forces from Iranian aggression while supporting the ongoing ceasefire.
