A year ago today, the Ways and Means Committee began to markup a bill that would deliver the largest tax cut in American history, the Working Families Tax Cuts. Now, a year later, Americans have just experienced a tax filing season with record tax refunds returning more of their hard-earned money to their pockets! 🇺🇸

My statement on the passage of the Budget Resolution to fund ICE & CBP:

Every child deserves the chance to pursue the American Dream. The Foster Youth Workforce Opportunity Act will allow young adults in foster care to access short-term workforce training programs that lead to in-demand jobs. We owe it to them to open doors to opportunity and set them up for success.

I am grateful for the swift actions of law enforcement tonight to protect everyone in the room. Thank God the Secret Service agent injured confronting the shooter is expected to be okay. Violence has no place in American society or political discourse. I appreciate President Trump addressing the nation tonight and pointing out that during the crisis all that were gathered - Republican, Democrat, and Independent - came together.

I’m horrified to learn of possible shots fired at the White House Correspondents Dinner. As we wait to learn more, I pray all those in attendance are safe.

I was proud to host a Service Academy Day for students and their families to learn more about the opportunities available through our nation’s military academies. Attendees had the chance to ask questions, connect with representatives, and gain a better understanding of the application and nomination process. It is always encouraging to meet young people who are considering a path of leadership and service to our country.

Rampant healthcare fraud, like what we’re seeing in California, hurts everyone: patients, providers, and taxpayers. “Ghost” patients, fake billing, and bad actors are driving up costs and diverting resources away from those who need real care. Oklahoma’s Operation Sooner Shield tackled this issue head on. It’s time for the rest of the country to follow suit.
