As a vet, but more importantly as someone who represents a veteran heavy district, I will NEVER vote to cut veteran benefits nor will I vote to prevent current service members from filing claims in the future. Today, I was put in the center of an unhinged meltdown and was told to “stop talking” because I pointed out how stupid it is to cut veterans benefits. Other Republicans AND many vet orgs to include @DAVHQ, @VFWHQ, @IAVA and @studentvets are against this bill for this very reason. The good news is, this veteran’s bill can and will be cleaned up and re-voted. So yeah, did I break away from party leadership on this to prevent cutting veteran benefits? Absolutely… and some of my colleagues disagree with me. Will a better version of this bill come to the floor? Yes. This is a part of the process.

Last night, I voted to keep Daylight Saving Time year-round. The clock changes have outlived their original purpose. It's time to end this unnecessary disruption and give families the consistency they deserve—with stable bedtimes for our children and more evening daylight to play and enjoy the outdoors.

The SAVE AMERICA Act should be added to the base text of the NDAA—not added through a MIRV procedure, which signals an absence of political will on the part of the House to stand behind its inclusion

If you believe in election integrity, don’t hide SAVE America in a MIRV. Put it in the bill itself. Statutory text becomes law. Everything else is only guidance that can be ignored, rewritten, or quietly discarded.

The Save America Act must pass. It's Not That Complicated.

We are coming up on America’s 250th birthday, and we have feckless leadership in the Senate refusing to pass the SAVE America Act. Should I also mention there are members in my own chamber who are more concerned about putting Senators in a “tough spot” on the NDAA than passing SAVE America. Did you not all run on this and promise this to your voters? Don’t worry. Even though some of you are making comments about me in the press, I won’t respond back with your incredibly brilliant stock trades that smell like insider trading, especially given your committees of jurisdiction. It’s okay, the American people will do that for me. So yes, 1,000%, the rule will go down until you attach the SAVE America Act. I don’t care who in this chamber hates me for it. I don’t work for you. I don’t work for Washington. I work for the American people. It’s time the House force the senate to do their jobs. Failure is not an option. Happy 250th, America. 🇺🇸 P.S. I’m not the only one.

This is why I voted against the procedural rule. Voter ID must be included in the base text to prevent the Senate from stripping it out! Base text or bust.

The current plan being proposed by HOUSE GOP to “MIRV” NDAA + SAVE AMERICA is a procedural head fake. This does not do anything but guarantee the Senate will EASILY TAKE OUT SAVE America from the NDAA. HOUSE GOP LEADERSHIP SHOULD allow an AMENDMENT to ATTACH VOTER ID + PROOF OF CITIZENSHIP or SAVE America to the ACTUAL TEXT of NDAA. IF IT IS NOT DONE THIS WAY, IT WILL EASILY BE TAKEN OUT. If we do it as an amendment, the way that I proposed it, the Senate would need 60 votes to pass the legislation without SAVE America attached. Meaning it would be harder for them to TAKE it out.
