Initial feedback after playing the Diablo 4 Season 8 PTR. - The season power mechanic is very similar to the vampire/witch season and has some strong combinations. While the synergies are strong, the lack of originality makes it feel iterative rather than innovative. - The seasonal mechanic for farming has been lackluster and has low XP rates, so you wont use it for leveling like Season 7. I really hope this gets a nice balance pass. - The apparition incursions seasonal mechanic is only seen in the open world, it would be nice to see it integrated into other parts of the game. - The fastest way to currently level is doing the Vessel of Hatred Campaign + Strongholds - The overall pacing of the game is a bit slower and harder which I think is good overall but still needs additional adjustments. - There is some cool new build combos that are enabled by uniques in endgame. However, the reliance on uniques to enable builds highlights a deeper systemic issue with the skill design. This leads to one of the biggest issues with the game in its current state and that is how limiting the skill tree feels. They need to overhaul the skill tree to allow more flexibility and introduce new skills outside of expansions, reducing the dependency on uniques to unlock playstyles. - I haven't tested the revamped/new endgame bosses yet Overall I think the focus on borrowed power mechanics is bad for the game long-term. The overemphasis on temporary systems distracts from building a robust endgame and leads to a balancing nightmare with the temporary powers. The team needs to focus on balancing the current endgame systems, adding more aspirational content and having multiple avenues of progression, instead of being a pit farming simulator with bosses sprinkled in. There is still a lot of time before Season 8 launches so hopefully they get everything sorted out.
