Good news! After decades of ignoring rampant environmental crime on the Roding, @EnvAgency has finally decided to act.
Bad news! It’s not against Thames Water for illegally dumping billions of litres of sewage in the Roding, or the waste criminals who have dumped thousands of tonnes of rubbish on its banks, but against myself & a small volunteer charity for… restoring a river without a permit!
Within a week of the magnificent work of River Roding Trust volunteers completing the arduous work of restoring 250 metres of the Aldersbrook this winter, EA investigators had been down to the site and rattled off a letter threatening us with prosecution for doing the work without a permit. This is despite the fact that the Trust have repeatedly asked the EA to do this vital work on the Aldersbrook themselves & they have refused. It is also despite the fact that they have not investigated the huge illegal sewage outlet on the Cranbrook a few hundred metres away, which illegally discharges 750,000,000 litres of raw sewage straight into the River Roding every year.

Henry Nowak’s death exposed something rotten. A young man lay dying in the street, yet the police did not appear to treat him as the victim he clearly was. Had the roles been reversed, the national reaction would have been entirely different. A minutes silence took place in the Houses of Parliament for George Floyd for heavens sake. That is the reality millions of people can see, even if Westminster refuses to admit it.

UNDERSTANDING DISABILITY: Week 7 of our Aditus Potens AF™ Series is on Thursday 18th June 7–9pm Last week we looked at the gaps between NHS and social care; and where people fall through the cracks. Thank you to everyone who joined and shared such thoughtful contributions. This week we’re focusing on: Diagnosis delays and access to treatment → Q: How long is too long to wait? We’ll clearly break down: • How waiting times for diagnosis and treatment have changed since the NHS began in 1948 to now • Current waits for diagnosis (cancer, mental health, scans/tests) and then treatment/surgery across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland • How technology is playing a part, including the new A&E iPad self-check-in and triage systems being rolled out • The role of government funding and its impact • The real harm caused by long waits; health deterioration, extra costs to the system and welfare, and the human cost to disabled people and families • How delays in social care compound the problems • What could realistically be done to improve things We’ll also touch on the Assisted Dying Bill if people want to discuss it, but the main focus will remain on diagnosis and treatment waits (we’ll go deeper into funding pressures and rationing next week and maybe cover more of the bill then too). It’s official: Lauren Edwards, Labour MP for Rochester and Strood, is re-introducing the Assisted Suicide Bill as a Private Members’ Bill.
The pro-suicide, eugenics lobby contempt for humanity and democracy knows no bounds.
Leadbeater’s Bill collapsed in the Lords after peers exposed its dangerous flaws; including the very real risk of coercion. Rather than fix those problems, the lobby’s response is to ram through the exact same flawed Bill and bypass the House of Lords entirely using the Parliament Acts.
They simply don’t care how many vulnerable people get hurt, as long as they get their way.
This arrogance could; hopefully, be their undoing....

TAKE ACTION The Labour MP for Rochester and Strood, Lauren Edwards, has announced that she intends to use her number two slot in the Private Members’ Bill ballot to bring back Kim Leadbeater’s assisted suicide Bill. There has been a massive backlash from a large number of her fellow Labour MPs and other commentators after she signalled her intention to bring back the Bill. None of the following groups and expert bodies support the Bill: the Royal College of Physicians, the Royal College of Psychiatrists, the Royal College of Pathologists, the Association for Palliative Medicine, the British Geriatric Society, the British Association of Social Workers, the National Down Syndrome Policy Group, Mind (the charity), Standing Together Against Domestic Abuse, the Equality and Human Rights Commission, and more besides.
