An interesting syllogism @RevKevDeYoung just used on stage with @JonathanLeeman at Coram Deo in talking about the role of the church versus the state: “Political orders require virtuous people. Only Christianity can form truly virtuous people. Therefore, the Church of Jesus Christ has the missional task of preaching the Gospel and forming a virtuous people.”

@QuixoteSword where does natural say "obey the voice of God"?

What a lousy translation by the ESV (taken from the RSV): “So may all your enemies perish, O LORD! But your *friends* be like the sun as he rises in his might.” (Judges 5:31) Every other English version follows the literal Hebrew, “those who love you”—not “your friends.”

"In some sense" should also be immediately met with "in what sense." Friends don't let friends not specify their sense.

Paul’s being persecuted did not hinder but rather furthered the gospel. This emboldened others to great confidence in their speaking the word without fear. When good men are persecuted we must pray for it not to hinder the ministry. The gospel spreading despite persecution brings boldness. Additionally, if you fear persecution though it has not proved to hinder the ministry you ought to examine whether you are a false shepherd. Cf. Philippians 1:12-14
