Fascism and socialism are both on the far left of the political spectrum. They are different ideologies, but both are forms of totalitarianism. The far right is anarchy, the polar opposite of fascism. It's because of its nationalistic aspects that people mistake fascism as a right wing ideology. Republicans/the right advocate for near total freedom for citizens, but with strict rules governing who can be a citizen. Democrats/the left advocate for near total governmental control for citizens, with lax rules governing who can be a citizen.
