@JReyanF @ConversationEDU I can see where you're coming from. The issue is that if there weren't money, it wouldn't get done. The people doing Hindenburg-type work can demand huge rates. And the money would need to be of the nature Hindenburg makes otherwise the talent would go elsewhere.

@JReyanF @ConversationEDU It's possible if hindenburg's trades are large (I'm not sure of the position size). They could look at CDS pricing , or short interest , or volumes. But, if Hindenburg is "only" trading a few million, they might not shift prices much for a company as large as Adani

@humpheryjenner @ConversationEDU Absolutely agree with uncovering fraudulent business practices but making dollars along the way makes it almost unethical, almost. Imagine ASIC borrowing shares before they uncover dodgy businesses haha

@JReyanF @ConversationEDU True, I guess the plus side is that they're producing forensic analysis into (alleged) corporate frauds. And, there is a public interest in those being exposed

@JReyanF @ConversationEDU Hindenburg did not say exactly which method they used in detail (from what I saw). It could have been both. They also did some other trades, which seem to include positions (or short positions) in companies whose prices would fall with Adani's Hope that clarifies

@JReyanF @ConversationEDU Second, they could use Credit Default Swaps (CDSs). CDSs are like insurance against default. The CDS buyer gets a payout if the underlying bond defaults. If Hindenburg bought CDSs, it would be akin to betting on Adani's credit situation worsening
