After a blizzard, carbon monoxide (CO) becomes a serious — and often overlooked — danger. Heavy snow can block furnace vents, dryer vents, and vehicle exhaust pipes, causing carbon monoxide to back up into homes and cars. Protect your household: ‼️Clear all exterior vents and flues of snow. ‼️Remove snow from around vehicle exhaust pipes before starting. ‼️Never run generators or grills inside a home or garage. ‼️Make sure carbon monoxide detectors are working.

Extreme blizzard conditions are causing power outages, road closures and flight cancellations across the Northeast. If you’re one of the many people battling intense snow and cold weather this week, we’re here for you. Try these tips to stay safe and warm at home if your power goes out.

Most of the accumulating snow through the evening will be in Rhode Island and eastern Massachusetts. Gusty winds will slowly diminish but can still produce some blowing and drifting snow.
