I spoke to a Cambridge professor yesterday. He’s about thirty years older than me and I occasionally call him to check in on him.
He shared a profound insight that I hadn’t considered before, and I’m really curious of your views. He shared his thought with The Guardian, but they’ve ignored his call.
He said, “The NHS is like an old sacred cow waiting to be slaughtered.” It demands increasing funding annually as medicine diagnostics and operations rise with inflation. However, as taxpayers, we don’t see a corresponding rise in our annual payments like we would with health, motor or house insurance, we jus take it for granted that the state will take care of us.
He believes we’ll eventually face the reality that the NHS will become more expensive for everyone, and for this we must be prepared.
I pondered his words and completely agreed.

@Ronmarkets I haven't tried to withdraw big cash sums, but I have a feeling it would be similar in Spain. They brought in new legislation recently to monitor all cash transfers I think over 1000, or patterns or transfers of smaller amounts. Also they monitor small 'bizum' transfers now.

Meanwhile, the S&P is only down 4.95% in 2026 so far.
They underperform roughly 10-30% of the time, based on recent years. The Mag 7 usually outperform, but when they don’t, it often signals a major shift in market leadership and those periods can matter a lot for diversification.
However, if the gap between Mag 7 and the S&P widens further, it could present a significant opportunity for long term buyers imo.
