@fardarter @Noahpinion I think @Noahpinion ‘s point is 1. Supporting authoritarians because the US doesn’t live up to its ideals is nuts, because, 2. Warts and all the US is a better actor than most powerful nations and certainly better than Russia or China, and 3. the US has done a fair amount right.

We are normalizing treason. The fact pattern is clear: Russia worked to elect Trump. He won. Now MAGA is pro-Putin. Trump/DeSantis push Putin position of “regional conflict.” If they win, Russia wins. Democracy loses. America loses. Pick a side.

1/ Good morning. If any of you are still bamboozled by Nancy Jacobsen and Mark Penn's @nolabelsorg's actual intentions let me hook you up. They claim to be moderate, centrist problem solvers who are running a 3rd part effort to "give Americans more choices."

@HanksKendyl Assuming it’s the episode that starts with the aftermath of Nate’s decision. I had the same reaction.

@Noahpinion These things are impossible to forecast. The through line of Goldwater to Nixon to Reagan only makes sense in retrospect. Demography is not on the right’s side. Non-white Democrats will drive future politics. Who knows where exactly, but surely center-left.

Honestly I don't see any U.S. political movement capable of garnering the kind of majority that Reagan (rightly or wrongly) got in the 80s. Maybe by the end of this decade something new will emerge. (end)

One consistent theme when I read about the 70s is how the political battle lines of the 60s became much more fractured and complex in the following decade, contributing to general confusion and exhaustion. Man, I feel that now.

This nation was built on peaceful protest. No elected official should lose their job simply for raising their voice – especially when they’re doing it on behalf of our children.
