My first @_heatgeek job all done and dusted! 3.5kw @vaillantuk Arotherm plus and the new XL mini store (jacketed water heater not a buffer 😂) 6x rad upgrades to satisfy a 40°c flow temp and @Openenergymon to see how this new piece of kit works in the wild!

@Damon_BPHR and I are fully on track to be the founding members of the most Elite of the Elite, the super exclusive and only by invite. 5.0 club
OpenEnergyMonitor@Openenergymon

There are now 60 systems on HeatpumpMonitor.org with almost a full year of data, congrats to @GSHPinstaller with the Nibe PVT and @Damon_BPHR with the Viessmann both tracking SCOP 5! These also provide lowest unit cost of heat across a range of tariffs e.g 3.7 p/kWh on Agile

When I first started doing EV stuff in about 2008, the fastest you could have got 160 miles of range (not that any EV had such a range) - on any type of charge point - would have been 19 HOURS. This is now possible in just 8 minutes. Average UK forecourt dwell time is 7 minutes.
Lawrence Allan@LobAllan

Updated Taycan sets what I think might be a new @GRIDSERVE_HQ record (might be broken soon by Lotus Eletre). Saw 329kW for a couple of seconds! More importantly, it maintained 300kW+ from 10% until I stopped it at 56%. About 160 miles of range in 8 minutes 👌

@glynhudson I set the OT threshold to max, which is 35 I think?... If it got hotter than that outside I guess I'd just stick the sensor in the fridge. 😀 In this weather you can get roasting hot rads in no time.

@RickmanHeat Yes, that will work assuming ambient temp is less than OT, I'm just wondering if there's an easier / foolproof way to enable maximum output

Does enabling P.04 Heating Mode Check Programme on a Vaillant Arothem+ set the heat pump to maximum heat output i.e max flow temperature and 100% compressor? @ScottishGasMan

@glynhudson I just set it to fixed flow temp, and bang it up to 65. I've assumed this will run at max output until it gets there.

I'm looking for a way to force the HP to run as hot as possible during a commissioning 'cook-off' procedure as part of a process to remove as much dissolved air as possible from a system

At @RickmanHeat we now run 3 electric vehicles. Not one of us has offstreet parking, so we have no real at home charging solution. It's a bit of a faff sometimes, but generally totally fine.

@RadiantControl Usually get by charging at customers, or at home with a cable across the pavement when I manage to get the space out front. There's a public charger a couple minutes away when we get desperate though

@_heatgeek So excited about this innovation from the team at Heat Geek. We deal with a lot of terraced houses where space is such a premium. This is going to be a great option for many of these!

@RickmanHeat @Openenergymon It's about 10W indoor and outdoor unit combined when pump is not running, Vaillant units are the lowest standby units we've ever monitored, very impressive

@Damon_BPHR Let us know how it gets on in the height of summer. Thermal mass will be keeping most houses cool this time of year anyways.

Back to my first Nibe install which I added ambient cooling too, weather comp cooling, how ever you want to name it, got told time and time again it wouldn’t work. Well it’s working perfectly, last week at 27°c external temp it was down at 20-22°c. All ufh and 2x humidity stats

@JonathanWaxman1 Because if you do them subsequently the heat pump may be even more oversized and cop may reduce.

You don’t need those things for a new boiler - why should you need them for a heat pump? Insulation is great and certainly cost effective in the case of loft and cavity wall. But if you make rules for HPs that don’t apply to gas boilers you’re just slowing the transition down.
Department for Energy Security and Net Zero@energygovuk

More homes are now eligible for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. Homeowners have more choice about how they improve their home, no longer needing loft or cavity wall insulation to get £7,500 towards a heat pump, meaning all types of homes can apply ⬇️ gov.uk/apply-boiler-u…
