My dad’s 70th birthday was today. And like a perfect Afro-Cuban he loves with every beat of his heart, fights for his family and leads with ferocity. Love you, Dad.

Sometime around 2001, I posted my name in an eBay search to see what came up. Surprisingly there was an item (already sold). It was a Valentine's Day card my Dad gave his 3rd grade teacher (circa 1937 in a tiny Indiana town in the middle of no where). He had signed his entire name and the Seller had it in the item Description. It was basically a lil 2 sentence crush note to his teacher. I emailed the Seller who said they bought the card in a lot from an estate sale in PA of a retired teacher. Unfortunately my Dad passed in 2000, but had he not, it would've been a hoot pulling his leg about sending love notes to a woman other than my Mother! I'm sure my Dad would've been blown away to see that card and here that teacher's name after all those years.

🇺🇸 US Army Sergeant First Class Mark Wayne Jackson, a Green Beret assigned to the 1st Special Forces Group (Airborne), was killed in action on October 2, 2002, in Zamboanga, Philippines, while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom 🕊️ A terrorist on a motorcycle detonated a powerful nail-laden improvised explosive device at an open-air market/restaurant just outside the gate of Camp Enrile Malagutay. The blast killed SFC Jackson and one other US service member, and wounded several others. He was 40 years old. Operation Enduring Freedom – Philippines was part of Operation Enduring Freedom and the global war on terror. The Operation targeted the various Jihadist terror groups operating in the country. My mom as well. She made it longer (77) but the doctors raved about her low cholesterol levels not too long before she died. She did everything they told her to do and she still ended up on a heart surgeon's operating table. I couldn't get her to eat fatty meat and stop taking those damn statins. She would just change the subject every time I brought it up.

Sergeant First Class Riley G. Stephens died 28 September 2012, of wounds sustained from enemy small arms fire while his unit was conducting combat operations in Afghanistan, in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. SFC Stephens graduated from the Special Forces Qualification Course in March 2005 and was assigned as a Special Forces Medical Sergeant to 1st Battalion, 3ra Special Forces Group, Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he served until his death. He was posthumously awarded the Bronze Star Medal, Purple Heart, and Meritorious Service Medal. Rest easy Hero 🇺🇸
