The crook Gyanesh Kumar has issued “unofficial” instructions to arrest over 1000 TMC leaders & workers in Bengal under “preventive detention” before voting day. This list includes sitting MLAs. What’s interesting? Not a SINGLE BJP leader or worker on the list. In the last 2 weeks, ED, IT, & NIA have conducted dozens of raids in Bengal. What’s interesting? Not a SINGLE BJP leader or worker raided. Mamata Banerjee & TMC will win this election resoundingly. The question however is - can a country be called a democracy when the Election Commission becomes a slave of the ruling party at the Centre? Such elections happen in tinpot dictatorships. When there’s a complete institutional breakdown & when courts become mute spectators, how long are we going to pretend that all is ok? When lakhs of people lose their right to vote & when elections are rigged, what sort of a “mother of democracy” are we pretending to be in front of the world?

It is deeply unfortunate that the Prime Minister chose to mislead the nation rather than address it honestly. Let me put this on record. Trinamool Congress has always championed higher political representation for women. We have the highest proportion of female elected representatives in both Parliament and the State Legislature. In the Lok Sabha, 37.9% of our elected members are women. In the Rajya Sabha, we have nominated 46% women members.The question of opposing Women's Reservation does not arise and never has. What we are fundamentally opposed to is the Delimitation exercise that the Modi Government was plotting to push through by using women as a shield for its vested political agenda. What we are fundamentally opposed to is the altering of Babasaheb Ambedkar's Constitution, the division of this nation and the usurpation of power through gerrymandering, by redrawing political contours to hand greater representation to BJP-ruled states at the expense of others. This is an assault on federal democracy. And we will not watch it happen in silence. If this government was genuinely serious about this noble cause, why did it wait nearly three years after the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill on September 28, 2023? Why rush it through when several states are in election? And why couple it with Delimitation? Trinamool Congress has stood for women for decades. We will continue to. But we will not be lectured on a subject that the ruling dispensation neither understands nor respects. And Mr. Prime Minister, the next time you address the nation, have the courage to do so from the Floor of Parliament, where you are subject to scrutiny, challenge and accountability. What you did yesterday was cowardly, hypocritical and fork-tongued. You can feel power slipping through your fingers. And you are prepared to go to any extent to hold on for just a little while longer. That is all this was.

Another textbook case of #VoteChori exposed in Andhra Pradesh and not a flicker of concern from the @ECISVEEP Around 4.16% of the total votes were cast between 11:45 PM and 2 AM. Nearly 17 lakh votes were cast after midnight, and the shocking fact is that post-midnight a vote was cast every 20 seconds. An EVM takes 14 seconds to reset. That leaves 6 seconds for a voter to enter the booth, vote and exit. At 5 pm, the CEO declared 68.04%. By 8 pm, the ECI said 68.12%. By 11.45 pm changed it to 76.5%. Four days later - 81.79%. That's a whopping 13% jump with no explanation. Questions remain unanswered till date. - Why has Form 17C not been made public? - Why is the voter list not available in a machine readable format? The ECI in its defence has shamelessly argued that, “bringing data after 2 years of the election is unconstitutional.” The ECI has murdered democracy and two years doesn't make it less of a murder.
