@LynneLowe00 "Oh the humanity" is a famous quote from a broadcast reporter who witnessed the Hindenburg airship crash and burn in 1937. Very appropriate for describing how the socialist Covid tyrant Ardern crashed and burned New Zealand

Did 1,500 people really die in last summer's heat? asks Paul Homewood. Most "heat deaths" are people with underlying illnesses dying a wee bit earlier than expected. It's the cold that's the real villain, not the sun. dailysceptic.org/2026/04/06/who…

@Dame__Jane Guy Fawke's bonfire night - making a guy, taking it around town in a barrow asking 'penny for the guy', best guy competition - winner went on top of a huge bonfire, lighting 'dangerous' fireworks that are now all banned. A fantastic night until the bonfire's embers faded away.

Right peeps. I need you to share something awesome from when life was simpler! Was it bullrush (tut tut!) KBars? Wimpys? Goodnight kiwi. Footrot flats as the perfect Christmas pressie for Dad. Billy T James making us all laugh (would it be possible now?) Top town! Selwyn. What else takes you back to those golden days? Inspired by @lily20087360 What do you reckon, shall we have a meander down memory lane this evening?

We didn’t need replacing in New Zealand and Australia. We were happy kids in the 70/80s. You see it in the school photos. Reminding us of what we had. Not my school but could have been. New Zealanders grew up differently to other countries. I am grateful for that.

@CGDay21 Yes, the world needs Ardern right now - as the next Secretary General of the UN. Hopefully Comrade Ardern will destroy the UN as quickly as she destroyed New Zealand.

@andrewc44104127 Yes. She was the first royal I saw. I performed a Scottish dance before her, as a 12-year-old student at Mt Roskill Intermediate School, at Eden Park in 1967. If Charles or William visited New Zealand today, I might even boo them. No longer a monarchist. Time for a republic

This is why we have co-governance all through local government. They ignore referenda and Govt mandate but treat strategic plans as gospel (when it suits them). Otago Regional Councillor Alan Somerville voted to give unelected iwi members voting rights on ICM Governance Board.

She advocates for censorship with a smile on her face. If Orwell were alive today, he’d have to add another motto to the Party in 1984: War is peace. Slavery is freedom. Ignorance is strength. and now Censorship is freedom of speech.

Do you Agree with former prime minister of New Zealand Jacinda Ardern that free speech is a weapon of war and people should be censored?

@kiwiBill1963 @ZooNealand I was blocked by Hills long ago for some unknown reason - a contrary opinion I think, in the days when he permitted comments. Best thing about Hills, Clark and others who block is that X keeps all their stuff out of your feed without you having to do a thing.

Free speech isn’t a weapon of war. It’s a weapon against tyranny. The moment you treat speech as something dangerous that must be controlled, you’ve already conceded the core principle, that individuals can’t be trusted to think and judge for themselves. Yes, speech can be misused. So can anything human. But the alternative isn’t safety, it’s authority deciding what you’re allowed to say, hear, and believe. That’s control, not protection.

@MarkoMatvikov @stingerdelux Sad, but true. It's parallel to watching a successful family construction business. First generation builds a great business from scratch Second generation consolidates and grows it. Third generation its all fast cars and luxuries.

I’ve effectively spent 3 decades in the industry. I’ve heard governments left and right at state and federal level promise to cut red tape. Only to see it get much much worse. Each side weaponises it - ‘dumping government workers’, ‘reducing safety standards’, ‘towers in the village’. Current Vic and Fed Labor have banged on about this more than any other - and they’ve both driven up cost and delay more than any previous government. Fixing these problems is a real solution - one that, as a builder and developer, would benefit me immensely. Instead, I think I’ve come to the cold hard realisation it’ll never happen. And I’ve defaulted to managing the decline to minimise the pain.

What’s missing from the housing and immigration debate is culture. Australia ranks as one of the highest home builders per capita. But it also ranks as one of the most expensive countries to build homes. This comes down to regulation and taxation, which comes down to culture. We love authority. We love bureaucracy. We love big government. Over decades in the industry, I’ve only ever seen it get worse. So we can’t pretend like a ‘supply only’ strategy works in Australia. We must accept we’re incapable of low cost and high productivity. We must admit we can’t build our way to a surplus of homes. We must concede that fuelling demand is making it worse. The longer we deny this truth, the more that people will suffer.
