Who we have in the room with us has a lot to do with what we choose to do before they show up. You want students? Plan & teach content like we have been. You want learners? Design opportunities for them to be learners in the room you facilitate. It starts with our choices.

Today is a great day to give educators trust and to show them compassion.

@alextvalencic It is when you teach in a rural school. I’ve been at my school for 4.5 years. One year, I had 7 different preps. This year, I have 4, which is the least amount of different Oreos I’ve had.

Is "teaching multiple preps" a common turn of phrase among secondary teachers?

@biblio_phile We pay a one-time payment to wear jeans on the last day of the week year-round. The money goes to a scholarship.

A student showed up in my classroom during a teacher work day after the end of the year, just to see his favorite teacher. ☺️☺️

I have heard it said, if they dont praise you show up & work anyway, or if they criticize/don't appreciate you show up & do the work anyway. I get being self driven and never giving up, but why should anyone have to work like this. Effective leaders wouldn’t create this culture.

How many other teachers could desperately use a movie-like inspirational talk right now? 😩

I'm comfortable giving the student who needed 4 attempts to master a skill the same grade as the student who only needed 1 attempt. 'If' a student learns is more important to me than 'when.'
