I love Australia but it is getting hard. I am pro government and I pay taxes. I believe some social welfare is important and I accept that a lot of my taxes will be mismanaged. But seeing the prime minister stand up and tell me he is making it easier for me to buy a house while absolutely slaughtering one of the most powerful tools for social mobility feels straight out of a totalitarian nightmare.

Look at Japan, it has loads of cars and roads and domestic airlines doing flights, yet it has a rail network to back it up. This is the kind of thing that should be developed and built even if its at a loss, it doesn't need to breal even.

Yes! A thousand times, Yes! They should never have been able to get to the point for that question to be asked. Work? Without a SSN? And obtaining one illegally is a whole other issue. So much tax evasion on both sides. And housing, same problem. There is an entire infrastructure for illegal immigrants that our tax money is funding that is much better served elsewhere.
