@Sykko_xo -elo that’s relatively accessible (diamond for example) effectively punishes some of our most engaged players for staying engaged. “Sorry, you’ve played good enough and long enough that you’ve lost the privilege of playing with friends” is a deal breaker for many.
English

@Sykko_xo I agree with a decent bit of these for what it’s worth. I’d say that the only one I don’t agree with is duo queue.
Many players play the game for fun (rather than to go pro/compete) and it’s pretty proven that social experiences drive fun. Cutting this off at any particular-

Some actual fixes for the game that aren’t just “buff my champ, nerf mages”:
Balance should reward difficult champions.
- Example, why are Garen and MF even viable in high elo? They’re not just viable, they’re insanely blindable too. Harder champs should be stronger at high levels of play.
- A more skill-rewarding meta = a more fun and rewarding game to play and watch.
- Difficult champs should be broken when mastered. We shouldn’t force Garen to be as viable as Riven in high elo.
Voice chat for high elo—at minimum.
- It’s crazy that a competitive game lacks voice chat just because we’re afraid of toxicity. League is way more complex than Valorant, yet Valorant has VC and we don’t?
Riot-sponsored events & incentives.
- Challenger jackets, backpacks, etc.
Riot funding content creators to host events.
- This would bring back players—it’s an investment, not just a money loss. Even Blizzard sponsored Grubby for a WC3 tournament… why can’t Riot back @DumbsYT for a pleb tourney or a community event. Or fund a creator race to Gold/Plat similar to what @LudwigAhgren did but on a larger scale and officially sponsored?
Ban smurfing & tie accounts to phone numbers.
- One of Riot’s biggest problems is retaining new players. No new player sticks around when every lobby has 4 hard-stuck low Masters who needs to stomp noobs to feel better about themselves.
Duo queue
- Shouldn’t exist in Master+—and honestly, I don’t think it should exist in Diamond either. I know this is an unpopular take because Riot hasn’t done anything to incentivize content creators or high elo players in forever so duo becomes the only content and only fun. But if Riot adds incentives and some of the other fixes in this post, duo in "apex" tiers won’t be necessary for content and will help the game be more competitive.
Nerf supports, give ADCs more agency.
- As it is right now, supports have way too much agency early / mid game compared to ADC's
- Supports however have less agency later on which is especially a problem for "good" supports as they have a hard time standing out later on in the game, potential fix for that coming below.
More item variety.
- Every season feels too restrictive with item choices. Stop removing items—balance around more variety instead.
- Bring back DFG, Galeforce, Prowler’s etc. and balance them instead of deleting them. In general, stop deleting items, balance them and have a game filled with options, variety and skill / knowledge expression.
- Good supports lack agency late game. Give them more items with skillful actives to set them apart from bad supports.
- Be creative, could be a 0.5 sec Braum shield on an active, could be a teammate targeted dash or stasis. I know Riot is heavily against anything that could potentially grief teammates, but in my opinion, if someone would grief, they would do it regardless of the options. And I mean, Bard exists?
- And if Riot is totally against anything that can potentially grief teammates, then as mentioned, be creative, examples:
- Item active that's a 0.5 sec Braum shield
- Make Knight's Vow a timed active, instead of redirecting 12% forever, make it 40% for 1.5 seconds
- An item active that's a large zone you can place within a large radius, similar to Blue trinket. But instead on a short cooldown and doesn't provide vision, but instead shows Rek'sai passive movement in the targeted area for 3-5 seconds.
- There's lots and lots and lots of options.
More rune variety.
- Why have we had the same runes forever? Arena shows how creative devs can be. Add new runes without removing old ones—just give us more variety, just like items.
- When the new rune system was added, I was expecting new Rune categories to be added every so often. Why do we still only have Precision, Domination, Sorcery, Resolve, Inspiration?
- Something like Kleptomancy was incredibly fun, why do we remove these things instead of just balancing them?

Yesterday I sent a rioter a 5000 word essay on the state of League of Legends and how to fix it from a balance perspective. If any of you have ANY thoughts on the current meta and/or what you would like to see changed PLEASE comment them on this thread. Riot is listening.

Aaand new job update! SUPER excited that I'm working on 2XKO at @riotgames as a QA Engineer II.
The FGC rocks, and I'm so happy I get to be working on a project that serves it. The people I've met so far on the team have already been so awesome to interact with

@CuewarsTaner The word “just” does a lot of heavy lifting here.
English

Don't know if this is a doable solution. It seems to be a simple process to fix bugged results.

maybe in the new year i'll try to be a bit more active posting thoughts and having discussions around league on twitter. I respect @RiotPhroxzon and Phreak a lot for the content/effort they put in (literally is not their job to tweet/make content) but I know it gets appreciated
English

@LSXYZ9 Heart gold down in B tier. I don’t need to see anything else.
English

@mintsoir Ive read a couple on competitive game theory and behavioral science, but it’s more in passing as someone referenced it. I wouldn’t even know where to look for them specifically to be honest.

the year is almost done, but we’re not.

@Spideraxe30 @Necrit94 Would be silly to put a pre release build in the public arcade imo

I've been pretty quiet on here for a bit, so here's an update!
-I made the decision to part ways with Theorycraft a couple of months ago
-I took a full month off to play games and just rot for a bit
And today that break is over and I'm starting a new chapter back at Riot!
I'm heading back into R&D and really excited. Looking forward to reconnecting with former coworkers & friends, and the onslaught of gun buddy requests.

This post is very clearly about rhetoric, people who use the term as shorthand for dismissing mechanics instead of saying why they dont like it. But people seem to think it means I like every game equally. Sending me a picture of a game I think is bad doesnt change anything lmao

‘Bad game design’ isn’t real, it’s a term made up by YouTubers who wanna justify their petulant whining
