Some added context here: This is not an attack on the Brewers, who are far from the only team making "smart" long-term decisions at the detriment of winning now. But can we not all agree that that sucks? Not what sports should be about. This was the best team in baseball last year, and they decided they'd rather maximize their ace's value (before likely losing him next offseason) than maximize their chances of winning a World Series in 2026. Cry about the Dodgers all you want, but this business-like mindset that has taken over MLB and other pro sports is a much bigger problem than one team spending a shit ton of money.
