The filmmakers are being very clear here, giving credit where credit is due, and being extremely generous with their public gratitude towards the digital visual effects artists that create the worlds you see on the big screen.
Visual effects are made by artists.

Shout out to the amazing work on @projecthailmary by the team at @ILMVFX! All of these shots (& many hundreds more) were made entirely digitally by the amazing artists there. Many of the most jaw-dropping shots are thanks to them!

@anishmoonka You wrote: “Then there's Rocky. He's the alien co-lead, and he's not CGI.”
That is not accurate. “Half of Rocky’s performance is CG animation.” Director Phil Lord.

This was a very good question from Ryan - why does the Universe on the largest scales resemble the Universe on the smallest scales? The answer, for the case of the distribution of galaxies on the sky, is that the pattern we see has its origin in quantum mechanical fluctuations during inflation - before the hot big bang (at least according to inflationary cosmology, which is the most widely accepted model at present). Hail Mary is a very good film by the way :-)

Love the innovation on AD ASTARA by cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema. To make it truly appear as if the footage were shot on the moon, he rigged up two cameras to capture identical frames. The first was a 35mm panavision film camera, and the second was an infrared Arri Alexa.
This allowed them to shoot in bright daylight, which created shadows consistent with real moonlight, and then process the footage in post to replace the sky using the infrared footage. The result was a far more authentic look than they could have achieved with traditional film lighting.
This approach was later refined by Hoyte van Hoytema for the extensive night exterior scenes in Jordan Peele’s NOPE, one of the best recent examples of the day for night technique.

@_martinsh and I have been working on something INSANELY cool We added a new phase function to the volume scatter node which allows you to import custom textures to use as phase functions, enabling things like cloud iridescence, or rainbows to be realistically computed
