@Rmlambert_00 @jpattueyi @FRevolva It's a metaphor that highlights futility of seeking external validation through material goods. You spend money to impress people, but those people aren't looking at you, they are looking at the object and wishing it was theirs. Could be video games or car models u in your case.

A financial advisor who spent 30 years studying why families stay poor said there’s one question most parents never teach their children to ask. He said: “If a young adult cannot answer this confidently, they will struggle financially.”

@wils17752 @jpattueyi @FRevolva This only applies to people who don't like cars and optimise for status. Car people play car video games in private, I collect car models that cost £££ and they're on my bookshelf not public, I even design them. Could not care less about status its passion.

@jpattueyi @FRevolva The Man in the Car Paradox is a psychological observation about wealth & status. It describes a common irony: When u see a Ferrari u rarely think, "Wow the guy driving that car is cool." Instead u imagine yourself in the car, thinking "If I had that car p'ple would think am cool"

@BULLETSYMPHONY Immersive games want the player close to screen to build tension, only her torso is visible due to narrow FOV Action games = wide FOV "infamous" have centre body for spacial awareness. Head to toe is visible some allowing central placement without blocking what's in front of you

@dimeji_csv @_Unknown_D_ Kevin samuels proved this. He asked women, if the man is ambitious and never makes more than 40k a year, will you stay? they ALL said no. Its not the ambition or work, its about successful results i.e having money, but no woman wants to accept they're shallow and lying

It’s never ambition. She’s just making more money than him at the moment and couldn’t get herself to live with the idea he might not get to a position where he’s doing better than her financially. You can be ambitious and not make serious money while in pursuit of your goals for a while. Patience is required too.

I saw a TikTok about a girl who left her boyfriend after 5 years because he lacked ambition. One thing people need to know about ambition is you can not teach, influence or force someone in to being ambitious. They either have it or they don’t and you need to accept that.

@ArtOfPilgrim It's one of the lowest leverage industries especially in UK, the absolute highest standards of art to enter with the lowest level of pay for such an entry standard, that's before being in office and UK Tax. I'm fortunate, full remote and above UK pay but DAMN its tragic!

@webjame @NikTek Haha no problem! Yeah this is a life system all, not a game industry thing but with games it manifests in a way that's directly visible and can be felt by the user (gameplay/AI...) hence the uproar. I do enjoy working on them still though!

@Rmlambert_00 @NikTek You've answered my vague question superbly. 😁 Direction from production managers. One of the main reasons I became self-employed. Always being told I was an asset to the team, no pay rises and no progressive structure due to a plethora of terrible management.

@webjame @NikTek It's a lack of priority, there's' going to be people out there capable of GROUNDBREAKING AI better than anything we've seen, but will they get the budget and prioritisation of the people in charge, or do the decision makers just want a quick money maker? That's the real question!

@Rmlambert_00 @NikTek I always thought it cool to want to work at a game studio but I learned that it was undesirable and so I pursued my own media company goals. Would this be a reason why large game studios are declining. They are not getting the best people anymore.

@webjame @NikTek I'm an example, my pinned tweet is a vehicle I designed under my own direction, I've designed vehicles for Ubisoft, Star Citizen and Split gate, none of them come close, because I was never directed to do such a thing, there's other priorities so it's not a lack of talent.

@webjame @NikTek so.. the large studios declining isn't necessarily talent issue but more a question of what direction is that talent being pushed in? and the people who decide direction aren't the talented ones in most cases lol

@webjame @NikTek Not quite, I'd argue in many studios the people can be greatest (for example art wise the bar is much better than it used to be but all of this is irrelevant is the direction is incorrect. When you can make anything, the most important thing becomes what you choose to make! so...

@AnAverageGamerX @DaddyMack121 So along comes Unreal Engine, reduces all that risk and R&D investment, of course companies are going to flock to it, if you want to change this you better start investing in the change actively otherwise this is what you get.

@AnAverageGamerX @DaddyMack121 I agree but try a different perspective. Have you ever asked how many game with bespoke engines have died? Have you ever asked whether gamers ACTUALLY valued the investment into unique game engines? Innovating requires high risk. The risk has not paid off countless times!

@AnAverageGamerX @DaddyMack121 One of my favourite driving games Driveclub made by evolution studios created one of the most impressive driving game engines ever. Did the public support that by buying....NOPE, where are they? Dead. You think a dev from that studio looking for work is going to repeat that risk

I’ve was gaming at 1080p for 18 years. Pixel/texture fill rate, shader power and memory bandwidth are orders of magnitude higher now. More than enough to accommodate a 4x resolution increase. I’ll give you ray tracing, but there are plenty of games that are heavy for now reason other than poor algorithmic choices. Look into how quake was made. The pentium was too slow to calculate the vectors traditionally, so they found an algorithm to make it performant. Change your settings from ultra to high. You usually have to compare screenshots to tell a difference. That used to not be the case. They are pushing into the realm of diminishing returns instead of balancing the rendering path.

@equinox654 @ShitpostRock Precisely!, I was explaining how the stagnation has changed over time, We have insane power today but because the trajectory wasn't smooth over those periods I pointed out, we're not where we expected to be by now.

@ShitpostRock 5. PS4 and Xbox one weren't upgraded from due to economic factors so games including ones I worked on were held back graphically as late as 2025 to run on an xbox one from 2013. This is the biggest reason for stagnation. My RTX 5080 can run cinematic trailers but xbox users can't

@ShitpostRock Many variables 1. The switch from 1080p to 4k - 4x more demanding 2. Console games tried to push 60fps at that 4k -stagnates fidelity 3. They faked lighting up until they couldn't any longer hence raytracing is required for final percentage 4. Raytracing in real-time needs POWER
