If you can, play PSX RE1 instead of the GOG ports The NSTC/PAL releases were more difficult than the original Japanese game: - Removed the option for auto-aim - Reduced ink ribbon pickups from 3 to 2 - Increased enemy HP and decreased Jill/Chris HP peak survival horror

Graphics aside, the original 1996 Resident Evil is just genuinely more fun to play than the 2002 remake. If you’re wondering why, it’s probably because you’ve either never played the original or haven’t in a long time. Better puzzles, pacing, progression and design.

@sertiana__ @majuular Not my thing. I don't like challenge runs with self-imposed rules to ignore entire mechanics. I'd much rather just make the game harder globally I am aware of why FJF is a popular run, but for me it basically takes away the fun part of the game (job + ability customization)

Played FF5 through for the first time late last year. 1. Can't believe how much fun the job system still is despite its relative simplicity 2. Home, Sweet Home is a top 5 Uematsu track IMO All told, not my very favorite FF game but one I feel compelled to replay more than most.

@StockeTepes Everyone complains about the move towards anime character designs in Dawn of Sorrow over Ayami Kojima's art, but this shit right here made it feel almost worth it in Portrait of Ruin (Order of Ecclesia's art by Masaki Hirooka was pretty dope though)

@OverBoredGaming @alaskorly Yeah, there's way more ammo to pick up in RE3, but also way more zombies in tight spaces too You also need to conserve ammo in RE3 if you want to take out Nemesis often enough to get his rewards. And if you don't... well, you're going to have some pain backtracking for puzzles

@alaskorly RE3 isn't the best example, especially if you are playing on easy. But RE 0, 1, 2, Veronica, and 1 Remake? Yeah. There is a tension there of not having enough ammo. That said there is absolutely enough, but the design of the games does not want you to perceive it that way.

@JJunkWarrior RE1-4 ogs all have stellar pacing. Even RE2 playing A/B scenarios back to back is a satisfying double arc (My blasphemous take is that RE4 gets a bit repetitive by the time you're on the island but the regenerators mix it up again, and combat never stops being fun)

there's a reoccurring problem with the resident evil remakes and its that the pacing in each one of them is worse than the original 1,2 and 4 feel like they stretch the playtime of the originals for a bit too long while 3 ends before it even begins
