@ncknowsball @H_OFF23 nah bc the wages are lower than they would get at other big clubs, so the hunger/desire comes from performing well and getting improved terms at the end of the season

@RoaringBlues @Statford_Bridge That’s why I originally said I wish we followed the data with our recruitment, because at least then there would be sporting logic to it. Delap had awful data. Lavia’s was meh. Everybody from La Liga said Jorgensen was bad. Does data tell you to buy 2 project LW’s Summer ‘25?

Famously anyone who does analytics don’t like soccer and don’t watch the games. Just look at sheet and roll dice
✈️@ELpadrino419

@Statford_Bridge @GoldbergCFC Are these “smart soccer recruitment people” actually watching the games or just using spreadsheet? Because there is no way you watch a winger that can’t dribble, shoot or create chances and say he looked fine.

@Pano_Footy @Statford_Bridge Agree with everything other than I’m pretty sure we tried to get Barcola but he chose PSG over us and that Gittens was worth buying, we just overpayed and looked like fools with the whole CWC thing.

@RoaringBlues @Statford_Bridge You always have to have a happy medium. My issue is the recruitment is mostly agent/SD favors and less good recruitment or using data. If they used Data, they would have went gotten guys like Barcola at Lyon and not Mudryk or Gittens

@Pano_Footy @Statford_Bridge Yep you need a mix of both, which I think we have. The main issue for me is how we go about negotiating for players and often miss out on the No. 1 target or even entire profiles we’re trying to bring in and desperately lack in the squad.

@RoaringBlues @Statford_Bridge JP is a great example of using your eyes to judge. His data wasn’t great because Adolf Hurzeler had him doing Joelinton Cardio shifts as an 8. If you watched him though you knew he was good. I remember arguing with people from June when we were 1st link that JP was good

@RafeSzn3 @Chels1an The issue is there isn’t really a player on the market who is better than Fofana on his best day for that RCB role and it would be extremely difficult to offload Wes given the transfer fee paid for him, his injury history and wages.

@Chels1an You’re overrating Fofana on the idea you still have of him. I don’t believe he can ever get back to 22/23 or even 24/25 form.

@rajsinghchohan Yep and Chelsea are a perfect example of not doing this well. Just looking at the CB situation and wanting to form a pathway for Josh, but wasting a season of him getting very few first team mins (should’ve been loaned out) and not having a solid & reliable RCB in the squad now.

This also means when you have a stable base in terms of squad age profile, not losing first XI players and system, you must capitalise on it as a golden opportunity because it means which player you should recruit is way more predictable. Arsenal had this golden opp last summer and wasted it last summer with Gyökeres imo. Their level has stayed pretty similar to 2024/2025. Bayern also had this golden opp last summer and took Lucho Diaz as a 100% complementary fit for the rest of their team. Their level has gone up from 2024/25.
Raj Chohan@rajsinghchohan

Top recruitment means top anticipation of changing variables. If you’re going after an in-demand player then you’ve got to put in the groundwork to woo him and his reps at least 12-18 months before you actually sign him. That means you need to have 12-18 months anticipation of A) what may happen to your older players in terms of decline/leaving the club, B) what may happen with your younger players in terms of being ready to take a bigger role in the team, C) what system the coach may want to switch to. All of this can potentially change what player you will target.

@Pano_Footy @Statford_Bridge You can’t only take an analytics approach imo (not saying you implied that). Need to mix in some football wisdom, an example being knowing that a player could be underperforming at their club bc they think they’re far better than that level like JP.

@Statford_Bridge I wish Chelsea took an analytics approach to their recruitment. We’d be without quite a few of the duds. Certain cityzens, if you will.

🚨🔵 Chelsea will receive a total of €8 million from Bayern Munich as part of the loan agreement for Nicolas Jackson if they win both the Champions League and the Bundesliga title. This includes €3 million for winning the Bundesliga and €5 million for winning the Champions League.

We’re legit the only team in Europe that knows what it feels like to blow PSG away. I can’t believe we held them to no goals (most impressive part). Gotta physically overwhelm them + take the sting out of the game with measured possession. End to end vs these lot? God bless.

Arsenal stylistically are a good match up against both PSG & Bayern, they don’t have to press to defend well, they’re so well drilled zonally which is vital against all these rotations & are physical monsters But can they handle all the firepower & pressure?

At pure back to goal play as a striker, João Pedro is the best in the league. He has a featherweight first touch and once he gets his body slightly in front of you on the turn, it’s over. He’s rock solid, no amount of contact is moving him.

Is Colwill seen as a top CB because he’s the quickest/strongest? Caicedo, Enzo, Lavia because they’re physical bullies? Palmer, Estevao the fastest or most direct? Joao Pedro a classic/bulldozer scorer? What’s their common edge vs other players/competitors? Our best talents.
