@Eurostar just cancelled our train to go on holiday. Didn't even warn us! I only found out when I logged in to do my API! Train travel; I can live with expensive and slow, but unreliable is just utterly unforgivable.

@CapelLofft @TheRestHistory I do wonder if he was basically just lucky in the '30s. Had Hitler actually been a moderate sort only looking to re-establish Germany's pre-war position in the European balance of power, would Churchill's take have been different?

@TheRestHistory I think I would have found it hard to forgive Churchill if I'd been shot at by snipers on the beaches of Gallipoli...Not to denigrate his heroic leadership in WWII but he was a bit of a bad ideas bear in the 1910s, 20s and even, other than on appeasement, in the 30s

Listening to @TheRestHistory on Gallipoli brings home to me with some force why my grandfather and great-grandfather hated Churchill so much. The latter survived the Gallipoli campaign (just). Also later a trade unionist involved in the General Strike. I mean...fair enough

@virginmedia a more than 24 hour outage to TV & Broadband in TW2? Taking at least 7 hours to get an engineer onsite? Not very impressive.

The closure of Stoke College (which in its modern form dates only to 1954) brings to mind the stupidity of the Edwardian regime in dissolving the original Stoke College in 1548, given that it was literally a nursery of the Reformation (including Matthew Parker)

@holland_tom @milliehi1 @Tostig1066 An another thing that struck me hearing about the Tapestry this evening - how, like Domesday, it seems to be a bit of a one off? I know Domesday has Carolingian antecedents, but I don't think they're as comprehensive, and certainly nothing similar was attempted again in England.
