🚨 JUST IN: Trump says he’ll be deploying 5,000 troops to POLAND, shortly after WITHDRAWING 5,000 from Germany If our troops have to be in Europe, Poland is the place for them! Poland’s President is MUCH friendlier to America than Germany’s chancellor.

@anders_aslund Europe should understand, however, a withdrawal will be permanent. It will not reverse if a Democrat is in the White House.

I think 31 NATO members are disappointed with the US which apparently no longer considers itself a member of NATO to judge from this and many other Trump administration statements. The US invites no trust or credibility any longer.
Department of State@StateDept

SECRETARY RUBIO: I don’t think anyone is shocked to know that the United States and the President are very disappointed in NATO right now. If NATO countries like Spain are denying us the use of these bases, why are we in NATO? We need to discuss that.

@cnrogers11 @anders_aslund Even when the main contributor gets involved in an illegal war? Don't be ridiculous. How stupid are people who don't realise that NATO is a DEFENSIVE ALLIANCE?

@anders_aslund I think he makes a valid point. If you want NATO to be relevant then members need to get on board with the main contributor that gives it relevancy.

Russia’s public threats against our Baltic States are completely unacceptable. Let there be no doubt. A threat against one Member State is a threat against our entire Union. Russia and Belarus bear direct responsibility for drones endangering the lives and security of people on our Eastern flank. Europe will respond with unity and strength. We will continue reinforcing the security of our Eastern flank with strong collective defence and preparedness at every level.

Vance: "There's been no President who's done more to ensure that Ukraine survived invasion of Russia than Trump. As he said, 'Obama gave them sheets, I gave them Javelins,' and those Javelins ensured that Ukraine still has its territorial sovereignty." This is simply a lie. It was 360 Javelins. They mattered, they helped, but they are not the reason Ukraine survived or kept its sovereignty. Ukraine survived because millions of us have been fighting and sacrificing for more than four years, against all odds and expectations. Our defenders are the main reason Ukraine survives. Military and financial assistance from all countries, including the United States, does play a role, and we very much appreciate it. But Trump is not the president who provided it.

@OG_Wick0 I think he did a lot to wind up the people who rioted and needs to be brought to justice over his part in inciting what took place at the Capitol.

@YoAdrienne1968 Why do you want to see death and destruction? Do you realise that to force Iran into submission, Trump will have to commit boots on the ground?

To be clear, what @kajakallas is saying here is that she and the EU are actively trying to sabotage any attempt at meaningful peace talks for Ukraine. They don’t care how many Ukrainians die. All they care about is imposing “defeat” on Russia. Stupid, dangerous people.

The current occupant of the Kremlin, Putin, still dreams of emulating Stalin and Catherine the Great, but is more likely to become the next Nicholas II. Things are clearly not going Russia’s way right now, and the situation is deteriorating.

This is what mornings in Ukraine look like. Dnipro. Another russian attack. At least 18 injured. Among them again — Ukrainian children: a 2-year-old girl and a 10-year-old boy.

@RobFWall @itsdaniryan Also in case you don’t know UA invaded Russia few times. Murdered a looot of civilians. Last time was Kursk invasion. They murdered thousand of civilians there from short distance. Captured many as exchange fund kids and old women and still keeping them in UA military prisons/

The average European, those who don't closely follow geopolitics, are asleep to the risk of the Russia-Ukraine war spilling further into Europe, but the situation is edging closer to that possibility. This is not because of any grand empire-building plan in Moscow, as the tabloid headlines would have you believe, but because this conflict is increasingly obviously functioning as a de facto NATO-Russia confrontation. This was of course always the case, but with recent events, it can really no longer be denied. Russia has so far shown considerable restraint in response to Western involvement and escalation. Are European leaders too comfortable in their assumption that there will be no serious retaliation? Or are they doing their best to provoke one? Dangerous times.
