I got a kick out the watch influencer community losing its mind over this believing AI images that it was a replica Royal Oak. AP would never create a plastic RO wrist watch. This checks the box without stepping on their golden goose. I don't think the demand will be that crazy for this at all beyond the super dork crowd. MoonSwatch it is not.

One man. 90 days alone. No water. No backup. No way out. Just a Ukrainian soldier holding a ruined position against wave after wave of russian assaults. Soldier Dmytro Yashchenko, callsign “Irishman.” After his comrades were killed, he stayed behind — completely alone. He defended the position with a captured russian rifle. The enemy believed an entire platoon was inside. He couldn’t even leave the house to get water from the well — any movement meant death. Day after day, he waited for the next assault. President Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded him the title Hero of Ukraine. This isn’t a movie. This is a Ukrainian soldier in 2026. Glory to the Hero “Irishman”. Glory to every defender holding the line when everything seems impossible.

Fiber optics as a battlefield consumable in the age of AI, when data centres are consuming more fiber than what manufacturing capacity can deliver, makes for a very interesting problem. Especially if fiber manufacturing plants suddenly start becoming legitimate sabotage targets.

Fiber optics is still happening at the battlefield, although not as much as it used to be. It's extremely pricey now. We used to buy 50km spool for $300, now it's easily $2500. Just so you know

All defence force reservist pay in Australia is tax free up to 100 days annually of part-time service. Whether the reservist is a former full-time defence force member or not. Or whether, in retirement, they receive defence force superannuation payments or not. Reservists temporarily and formally serving full-time (for periods longer than the annual 100 day part-time allowance) are taxed the same as full-time personnel.

Even for people who aren't ex-regulars, if you're a desired specialist, chances are you're going to be penalised tax-wise for reserve service, something I'm more than familiar with. I think the solution here is a dedicated Reserve Forces Tax Credit. Make it juicy for retention.
