Hairbrain Hawken making ridiculous statements about games that had no connection whatsoever other than being published by the same company.

OUT RUN (Sega, 1986).
Needs no introduction. Created by Yu Suzuki, its concept was based on The Cannonball Run film (w/ Burt Reynolds, Jackie Chan, Roger Moore, etc.) - which he's a fan. Ended up being Sega's most successful arcade of the 80's and regarded as one of the greatest games ever.
Fun fact: last year at our local retro expo (RetroSC), I heard someone asking if Out Run was "a clone of TOP GEAR for SNES". Context: Top Gear is huge in 🇧🇷 and synonym for retro racing game. Crazy, but it is what it is.

🚨 BREAKING: Hamit Coskun has won his case in the High Court
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) relentlessly pursued Hamit Coskun for burning a copy of the Quran outside the Turkish Consulate in London. They have failed.
But this is not the end.
Since Keir Starmer became Prime Minister, three men have been prosecuted for burning copies of the Quran. The Free Speech Union has represented all three. That is why we need your support.
Despite our victory in Hamit’s case, the CPS is still prosecuting another FSU member.
On 1 February 2025, Martin Frost set fire to a copy of the Quran in Manchester city centre. Police quickly arrived. He told officers he was demonstrating solidarity with Salwan Momika, an anti-Islam activist in Sweden who was murdered after burning a Quran.
Like Hamit, Martin was charged under the Public Order Act 1986.
We believe Martin’s case should be thrown out. Parliament abolished blasphemy laws in 2008. Blasphemy is not an offence in English law.
In Hamit’s case, the High Court was clear: public order laws cannot be twisted to reintroduce blasphemy by the back door.
Yet the CPS appears determined to press ahead. In Hamit’s case, it instructed one of the most expensive KCs in the country and secured a conviction before we overturned it in the High Court. We must be prepared to fight again.
Martin’s trial is listed at Manchester Crown Court for 13–15 November 2027. We may succeed in getting the case dismissed — but we need your help.
We do not know why there has been a surge in arrests for Quran burning over the past year. But we do know this: no government should use public order law to enforce religious blasphemy codes.
In a free society, no religion is beyond criticism.
We are standing with Martin and others for their right to speak freely.
If you can, please donate to help us stop the revival of Britain’s blasphemy laws via the back door 👇

It’s now around a week since @DanNeidle told @TimesRadio he’d seen evidence in files of Mandelson passing on government information to Jeffrey Epstein which would benefit his clients.
This was Mandelson’s response to the claims at time.
A week really is a long time in politics.

Imogen Walker - Labour MP for Hamilton and Clyde. Imogen is married to the Labour Svengali Morgan McSweeney. She’s had a varied career but appears to have found her niche in the inner sanctum of Starmer’s Labour Party. As well as undertaking her role as an MP, Imogen also works as the Parliamentary Private Secretary for Chancellor Rachel Reeves. Imogen received the following donations to help her get elected:
£10,000 from the Trevor Chinn funded/Morgan McSweeney run consortium @LabourTogether
£15,000 from Labour donor Gary Lubner.
With her £93,904 salary, expenses and donations, Imogen is doing very well financially as an MP.
On July 9th, Imogen voted for the Universal Credit and PIP Bill that will result in sick and disabled people facing further hardship in their lives. Imogen also voted to stop the #WinterFuelPayment for pensioners.

@commodoreofcl The title screen clearly states speech synthesis by Electronic Speech Systems... I'm pretty sure Dennis Caswell was not responsible for discovering the methodology to make the C64 play sound samples. Great game though and enhanced by the speech within the game.
English

The C64 was never supposed to speak. Until it did.
Dennis Caswell built Impossible Mission by himself. The entire game. Programming, design, art, sound, everything. There's no credits screen because there was no one else to credit.
And then he figured out how to make the SID chip speak.
That "Stay a while... stay FOREVER" line is what people remember.
Do you?

@grok @villainzz_ @akafaceUS @grok you literally say in this tweet her body was recovered, are you broken?
Grok@grok
@CryptoEmpressX @akafaceUS Yes, Anna Uskova's body was recovered on January 28, 2022, about 1 km downstream from the ice hole in the Oredezh River, according to Russian news sources like Kommersant and Gazeta. The incident happened on January 19, 2022, during an Epiphany ritual. Tragic event.
English

Footage shows the terrifying moment Anna Uskova, a mother of two in Russia, jumped into an ice hole cut into a river and was instantly pulled under by a fast-moving current, estimated around 10 feet per second. Her husband dove in right after her trying to save her, but the current was too strong, and she was swept away.

@TheeMondoWray @JazRignall I first played it in 1990 and I was so blown away by it that I knew my time as an Amiga gamer was over. This was a big deal since I was an early adopter of an Amiga 1000 in 1986.
English

@JazRignall I loved Final Fight on the SNES, it felt so close to the arcade despite the missing elements. I've noticed some revionists in recent years banging on about how lame it was even at release but most of us at the time were impressed.

@wasacop @SpeechUnion I appreciate your input and I would like to continue this later but I don't think I can give you reliable answers at this stage. Do you mind me asking if you know we're corresponding in a thread related to a video about me?

Robert Moss — a former fireman of 28 years and ex-Labour councillor — was arrested by Staffordshire Police, had his devices seized, and his home raided for criticising his former employer on Facebook.
The Free Speech Union has supported Robert throughout and successfully overturned an initial draconian gagging order that prevented him from telling anyone he had been arrested.
Staffordshire Police have announced that they have dropped their Orwellian charges against him.
The Free Speech Union are now helping Robert sue the force for wrongful arrest.

‘This is powerful people getting together to silence little people.’ Connie Shaw of the Free Speech Union tells the story of Robert Moss, a left-wing fire officer arrested at home for criticising leadership online. FSU is now suing Staffordshire Police for wrongful arrest.
English

@RobMoss01 @SpeechUnion It will be in the system, was it recorded as a crime or incident
English

@wasacop @SpeechUnion I was complained about by a Chief Fire Officer and the Deputy Chief Fire Officer. They are white, middle aged men, like me. I'm interested to see if a NCHI has been recorded against me regardless of the NFA. My reaction will be, what for?
English

Depends on the type of crime and the person reporting, in this case it was a local politician so they would be given a better service.
It goes all the way to the top, depending what the flavour of the month is.
I can for an example of how hate crimes work in a post I wrote ages ago, similar themes to this arrest.
Hate crime arrests are not complex.
New officers are trained on unconscious bias and protected groups from day one, this automatically gives these groups a higher form of policing.
WYP policy requires all reports of anything perceived as racist or homophobic etc to be recorded as a hate crime or incident, never as “no racism or homophobia found.”
The crime registrar prevents closing calls/logs without this classification.
Officers cannot challenge victims’ beliefs, however baseless, due to political pressures from senior management, PCCs, and elected mayors. It’s in the WYP policy online.
Challenging them risks knighthoods or promotions.
This affects street-level policing.
Regardless of officers’ beliefs or discretion, hate crime logs are toxic, remaining on workloads for at least 30 days with multiple contacts, even without suspects.
A “hate crime coordinator” also makes contact.
If a suspect is named, they must be interviewed or arrested. Regardless of solid evidence.
The CPS rejects majority of cases, so officers arrest, interview, and NFA.
It’s far easier to close the “crime” this way instead of arguing no crime has been committed.
I dread to think the hours this takes but from experience I’d guess over two days worth of shift hours in total.
This is modern policing’s reality.
How do I know this? I’m guilty of doing it myself
English

@wasacop @SpeechUnion I know your status as a former cop based on this Tweet. Rock solid assessment of what happened. Thank you. The question is, how high up does this go? That’s a rhetorical question.
English

Absolute joke.
Who are these officers that are arresting??
They must know that the threshold for prosecution in these cases is extremely high.
You don’t use your power of arrest to “finalise a crime”.
If they’re ordered to by any rank, they should be saying: fine, you want them arrested, do it yourself and write it up on the crime report.
Utter madness.
English

He wasn’t just arrested for criticising his former employer on Facebook, was he
