This Ashley discussion has gone balls to the wall bonkers so let me start with this. Ashley William haters are straight up wrong! I'm tired of pretending you're not. The hate can be summarized thusly: 1) She's boring 2) She's a racist 3) She's too attractive 4) She's religious & preachy 5) She's a bitch 6) Incoherent rambling.. So let's address it: 1) She has some of the most entertaining responses in ME1. Try being neutral to her sometimes & see how hilarious she can be. It's pretty clear most will be picking a biological bat tank, a burka super fan, & bird bestie over her. Which leads to most never really experiencing her. 2) She is not any more racist (xenophobic) than ALL of your companions - & even Shepard. Try picking any renegade option & see for your self. Hell, Wrex has a deep seeded mistrust for all aliens, even other Krogan. Javik can't stop him self for a single conversation. Shep says some things that would make a Hanar blush. The most common cited example of Ash racism is the infamous 'dog' analogy. Wherein you are discussing the council & other races, & she is explaining that if you are being attacked, no matter how much you love your dog, you will set it loose on the enemy while you run. This is completely misunderstood by many. She is not saying aliens are dogs, she's saying WE are the dogs. That the council & other races will sacrifice us while they run. This is EXACTLY what happens. The Asari council member in ME3, when asked to help Earth, says: 'The unfortunate truth is that while the reapers focus on Earth, we can regroup'. Ashley is mistrustful of Aliens with good reason. Those who bother listening to her & learning about her family will understand why. Humans are relatively new to the galactic scene. People don't realise it's only been 26 friggen years since humans first learned they were not alone in the galaxy & were fighting the first contact war. Yes they bust out & are immediately attacked by weird bird men. It's hard to kill things if you have to develop sympathy for them. That does not a good soldier make. Then we have first visiting the Citadel with Ashley. She's not able to tell the aliens from the Animals. It's a bit of a foot in mouth moment from a girl in her 20s - but see it this way. Ahead of her is a friggen floating jellyfish. How is Ashley to know that's it's able to talk or become the citadels greatest spectre? Is it wrong she doesn't trust aliens poking around in the most advanced WAR SHIP in the humans fleet? Shepard weirdly lets them all poke around unrestricted. Tali spends most of her time doing just that. Ashley is not wrong here - it is against any military protocol & very dangerous. We were just lucky our companions turned out to be good willed. Unlike the Asari who kept a beacon all to them selves when it could have prevented the reapers invading all together if they simply shared. Why are humans castrated for being careful but the aliens get a free pass? I want to also point out that Ashley hates Tera Firma & Cerberus for being xenophobic extremists. Then we have Ashley's development. At the end of 3 she has developed into someone who not only fights along side aliens, she fully embraces & trusts them. Character development bitches. 3) Jealousy over a pretty girl in a game. That's new. Grow the hell up. Pretty girls exist. Mens standards aren't going to get higher by looking at pretty pixels, just like yours aren't rising perving on Kaidans glorious 6 pack. You still manage to get your heart broken by trash - which is why it's so easy to return to a comforting playthrough of Mass Effect. 4) Grow the hell up. I'm not religious but no one has all the answers. She's entitled to her beliefs & if you listen to her, there is reasons for it. Hope isn't an awful thing to cling to. 5) This mostly comes from her attitude towards you in ME2 & the start of ME3. Where she's mistrustful of you working for a known terrorist organization with extreme xenophobic motivations. Ironic. It just seems like people don't respect strong women that stick to their principles. I love Garrus but maybe that's because he is a yes man who's ride or die. Ashley stands for something. 6) Yeah it's real obvious these idiots picked Kaidan & don't know what the heck they're talking about. Now the HeartShapedTear below got castrated for hating Ashley after she shot Wrex. Yes she's angry at Ash fixing Hearts mistake, but they don't deserve to be crucified for that. It's their first time playing! Embrace HeartShapedTear. Welcome them into the collective. Be kind. Converse. Lead by example.. because if they did that in their first playthrough, Wrex would have survived. What is most interesting, & what spurred this post, was seeing just how many people dislike Ash. I know at the start I said you're wrong, but you are entitled to your subjective outlook. I just wanted your attention & I hope now that I have it, you take the opportunity to kindly piss off 😋
