"In the last few weeks of June, we saw clients shift their quarterly capex spend toward servers, storage, and memory purchases to secure supply-constrained infrastructure ahead of expected price increases. This dynamic impacted client buying patterns. While we anticipated some supply chain related impact in our expectations, we did not anticipate the magnitude of the capex reprioritization." Bad commentary for software names... good commentary for memory, chips, and other hardware names.

Alexandr Wang mentioned the pricing is built to "scale with immense consumption usage." They're trying to trigger as much agentic usage as possible. And agentic workloads are the most compute-hungry thing in AI... 1M-token context, parallel subagents, tool calls in loops, running for minutes per task instead of seconds. Every one of those runs is inference. Cut the price 75% and workloads that were too expensive suddenly become viable, which means a lot more of them. Cheaper inference doesn't mean less compute btw. It means way more of it. Classic Jevons.
