Investors don’t pour hundreds of millions into clubs out of charity. They expect value to be created—through asset appreciation, commercial growth, media rights, player trading, or eventually a sale. Some owners are willing to absorb operating losses, but that’s very different from saying they don’t expect a return on their investment. If clubs had no long-term financial value, banks wouldn’t lend against them, investors wouldn’t buy them, and many wouldn’t survive once the benefactor stopped writing checks.

@BrownbearSLC Thousands of football players are enough when you have a single league that only needs the best 2,500 players practice squad included. Out of about 5,000 professional football players worldwide. The competition for soccer is the best 1,300 players out of 130,000 worldwide.

It boggles my mind that we can produce literally thousands of football players every year that are now paid professionals basically on the backs of Dads coaching little league...but somehow soccer needs more money to pay coaches.
