Eagerly awaiting the Julio activation tweet Feels like when a guy is a slam dunk to be activated it's announced earlier in day Makes me slightly worried they're waiting to see how he is today or not ready yet, which would be VERY concerning

The fact that 'The Matrix' actually got made is a literally miracle. Will Smith turned it down for Wild Wild West. Brad Pitt and Leonardo DiCaprio all passed on playing Neo. Warner Bros offered to rewrite Neo as a woman just to get Sandra Bullock on board. Execs had absolutely no clue what 'living in a machine' meant. In the end, The Matrix chose Keanu Reeves.

The France and USA World Cup losses have a ton in common: Flat play, nerves, weird fundamental issues. Any team can have a bad game at any time. No one is saying "Redo the French youth club league systems." You can feel better about the USMNT losing after today.

@hallofgoodpod Had this one brought to my attention before. Early in the movie Smalls is playing catch with his stepdad. So he didn’t need to get the Babe Ruth ball.

@madisonkelleyp We have done this all already. We have representatives that are old enough to remember how short lived it was, and they still voted for it.

This is one where the soccer people just say: “Well that’s the way it is…” and then launch into a stump speech full of justifications and condescension. The American sports consumer just will never accept this level of absurdity. It’s why we constantly tweak and mold our rules in every sport to be proportionate and sensible. That said, I got England tomorrow. See you then.

Can someone explain like im five why the offensive player should receive such an enormous reward for leaping into a clearance attempt by an unwitting opponent

Comparing this team to last years Mariners: on paper better, in practice worse. Comparing this team to any Mariners team from 2004-2024: exceeding normal franchise expectations

@BiqJay08 @gavinmchughh The only way this argument begins to be reasonable is if Patrick Mahomes played offense, defense, and special teams the entire game up until the last half of the 4th quarter. PM gets half the game (only an hour) to sit down, look at videos on a tablet and get water and treatment

@gavinmchughh Putting Haaland on the bench for the biggest 15 minutes of his life is like benching Patrick Mahomes for the final drive of the Super Bowl because you wanted a "different look." Absolute coaching malpractice.

I love being told European soccer is “better” because clubs aren’t profit-driven, don’t expect a financial return, and are happy losing money. That’s objectively false. Investors don’t pour hundreds of millions into clubs out of charity. They expect value to be created—through asset appreciation, commercial growth, media rights, player trading, or eventually a sale. Some owners are willing to absorb operating losses, but that’s very different from saying they don’t expect a return on their investment. If clubs had no long-term financial value, banks wouldn’t lend against them, investors wouldn’t buy them, and many wouldn’t survive once the benefactor stopped writing checks.
anonymous1982@anonymous1v6b

@SteelersChels @JahangirAsgha10 Sorry mate but your clueless They are not at all. The outliers are Madrid and Munich because they DO make profit ~85% of European clubs in top leagues or 2nd tier are not profitable. About 40% just about breakeven after player sales Clubs are NOT ran for profit

@TheMaineWonk They are just buying time until they can find a doppelganger good enough. Unfortunately for them he will end up being a Democrat and vote for things like universal employment, and funding homeless shelters.

If it turns out Mitch McConnell is dead and the GOP are involved in a coverup to prevent a special election that is mandated by Kentucky law, people need to go to prison. Full stop.

@BrownbearSLC Thousands of football players are enough when you have a single league that only needs the best 2,500 players practice squad included. Out of about 5,000 professional football players worldwide. The competition for soccer is the best 1,300 players out of 130,000 worldwide.

It boggles my mind that we can produce literally thousands of football players every year that are now paid professionals basically on the backs of Dads coaching little league...but somehow soccer needs more money to pay coaches.
