"Gov. Whitmer should have vetoed Senate Bill 8. This legislative action to change the minimum wage increase and to modify the subminimum wage for tipped workers just one week before its scheduled implementation raises serious concerns about the future of our democratic process."

While the new legislation will raise the state minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2027 and benefit millions of workers, it fails to fully eliminate the subminimum wage as mandated by the State Supreme Court.

This is a no-brainer: Large restaurant chains and their executives, who earn millions of $$$ each year, embrace tipping and benefit from it 'cause it allows them to reduce labor costs and boost profits at the expense of tipped workers, many of whom rely on restaurant jobs!
