Most VA "disability" payments involve no claim of inability to work or do any other action.
They are compensation for claims of ongoing pain (physical or mental) stemming from any experience during active service.
The VA should rename them accurately.

If people think that four years of military service should entitle someone to a lifetime pension, they can make that case openly, but laundering it through disability claims seems very degrading, both individually and socially. You have to lie to get your bag.

@ArtemisConsort VA disability is disability ~compensation~. It's not for people who can't work; they are compensating you for injuries you sustained in their employment. Soldiers/vets can't sue the govt, can't get workers comp, etc. If your employer fucked you up they would be paying you too.

Many Albertans told me personally they were afraid their bank accounts could be frozen, or that they could be penalized by government, simply for signing the petition.
They also shared their shame and sadness that Canada has reached a point where citizens are afraid to participate in a basic civic process.
But they all said the same thing: on October 19, in the privacy of a secret ballot, they will be voting Yes to independence.
