The hypocrisy is astounding. The BMA leadership cannot reject affordability arguments from Ministers, then make the same argument themselves when their own staff are on the other side of the table. One rule for everyone else, and another when it is their own organisation facing the bill. dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1…

This week's scoop-packed episode of our podcast The State of It: Exclusive 1: * Angela Rayner is on course to make more than £100,000 from private speaking engagements with City investors, management consultants and estate agents along with a substantial advance for her memoirs * Allies say it is more than enough to pay off any outstanding stamp duty on her home and any potential fine from HMRC. It will be disclosed on her register of interests in coming weeks * Rayner is able to command five-figure fees for speaking events because of speculation that she will lead the Labour Party if Keir Starmer falls in May * It's a double benefit. The leadership speculation surrounding her has a monetary value to businesses, meaning she can settle any outstanding liabilities with HMRC and bolster her position if the contest comes Exclusive 2: * Sir Keir Starmer is weighing up the legality of joining any US military operation in the Strait of Hormuz amid concerns that it is simply too dangerous for the Royal Navy to engage * Government lawyers have been asked to look at whether a British military intervention can be justified on the grounds of self-defence * Some think it will need a full-fledged UN Resolution, which will be impossible to obtain. Others argue that the UK can intervene on the grounds of self-defence. * But there are at least four major issues: 1) Where's the plan? Starmer does not think Donald Trump has a viable plan to stop drone attacks in the Strait. 2) The UK believes that the Straits are too 'hot' for Royal naval deployments - it would put British servicemen and women at huge risk 3) The government is reluctant to do anything at all while the US-Israel offensive continues. Once it has abated, yes, but the conflict needs to end first. 4) The UK simply does not - at present - have the assets to deploy. It's worth remembering that the UK is without a Royal Naval presence in the Middle East for the first time in 50 years With @patrickkmaguire & @Gabriel_Pogrund open.spotify.com/episode/5QABPD…

Political hacks have been saying “It’s over for Starmer” for weeks now. They’ll be right at some point but it’s all a bit “predicted 7 out of the last 2 recessions”.
