Friends & colleagues who still post, retweet, like on Twitter: maybe we should heed this statement from US civil rights groups? Refers to DJT, but not labor practices, Kanye, Saudis...)

@TenuredRadical @UAW7902 @varsha_venkat_ @insidehighered @chronicle @myHNN @lfeatherz SMART. Thanks for stating this so clearly, Claire!

"Armies of contingent laborers will never align their interests with an institution built to serve the 18%, nor should they." We must rebuild higher education around full-time work. @UAW7902 @varsha_venkat_ @insidehighered @chronicle @myHNN @lfeatherz

@JamesGDyke @adam_tooze Thank you for reading my essay, which is just an Afterword to a collection. The full argument is in the book, Anti-Crisis. Metaphors abound ! (-;

"The ends of perpetual crisis" - this smart essay by @RoitmanJanet has been cited as though it were a knockdown critique of the term polycrisis. I would see it as an extremely useful elucidation of what a self-reflexive usage entails. Recommended.

@adam_tooze Polycrisis signifies multiple causality, if I understand you correctly. But of course any situation that is qualified as a crisis (eg war) has multiple causes. Our lives today are defined by a virus, an invasion, central bank policies, etc. So what?
English

@adam_tooze We can say that SBF/FTX is in crisis; that the crypto exchanges are currently in crisis. But they were always already undercapitalized/undercollateralized, much like the SUBprime mkts of 2007. Declaring them "in crisis" is a means of intervention, not a description of those mkts.

Massive thanks to Christian Borch and @BondoHansen for joining us last night to discuss their research on "Alternative Data" in investment mgmt and algorithmic trading 👏 The conversation is archived at platformeconomies.net/salon-items/al…

@Gauntlet_Media @jeanburgess Rapid, yes. But surprising? Not sure, given that the goal of becoming a payments platform is increasingly the only game in town.
@Gauntlet_Media: Mastodon is the DuckDuckGo for public conversations but academics aren't comfortable w/ the lack of algos that serve self-promotion
English

@jeanburgess Yes, lots. I wonder if now, during Twitter's dying breaths, is an opportunity for us to openly discuss and organise where we move next? I'm keen for a not-for-profit, privacy-focused system, like a Duck Duck Go for public conversations.

@TimFernholz @samanth_s @adam_tooze @maryhui @TimFernholz I just read your essay in Quartz.
Well done, both on so-called polycrisis and the oxymoronic permacrisis. Of relevance: acrobat.adobe.com/link/track?uri…
@adam_tooze & I already debated this ages ago...
English

.@TimFernholz critiques the "polycrisis," fanned to mega popularity by @adam_tooze: "The job of an intellectual in a complex world is to clarify, & it’s not clear that 'polycrisis' means anything more than its Greek roots: We’ve got a lot of problems."
