can I get a slice of yearning with a glass of existential crisis and moral dilemmas on the side please?

@RollPriya it’s not only sapphic romance, it’s about food, culture and translations. And most importantly, how the asymmetrical identities of the colonizer and the colonized affect, destabilize, and ultimately lead to the dissolution of a relationship.

@bookbeduion this is what i had figured when i came across this book...i knew that the relationship between the mcs is not going to be that simple but some comments from chinese ppl had me doubting....i literally prefer dark nuanced love stories as compared to simple historical romance😃

as long as their dynamic is not romanticized and the author is aware of the sensitivity of the topic they're dealing with...i'm fine with it

@powwidgesan @namillit as long as their dynamic is not shown in the positive light and the bigoted colonizers aren't romanticized...i'm fine with it...

@RollPriya @namillit It is. The romance is what makes it very, very, very uncomfortable to read. Its not a happy or a cute romance, its messed up and disturbing and hopeless and awful but thats exactly what the goal of the book is.

nothing pisses me off this like does?? the name you were born with is YOURS. they will never say this to a man because they somehow own their last names but women never do in their eyes. trying to put this as some heartbreaking fact but all you do is expose your misogyny

@palvinaccess all i'm asking is why its always the women who has to change her identity to express her happiness why can't the men do the same....i think marriage should only be about love and shared moments, not this name changing corny ass shit

How your wife (you’re faithfully married) looks at you after decades of being married (in a church) and having multiple beautiful children together (you love each other deeply). Neither of you are cheating by the way (you are married, to each other).
